Superstar Mode - Take IT, Or Leave It??

To me superstar is unplayable and has horrid presentation at this point. I used to play it on my XBox with NCAA 08 and Madden 08 doing the campus legend and superstar bits. It was struggle to want to keep it up, but at least the campus legend part was fun. the Madden superstar presentation was bad becasue you really only delt with football, while NCAA had you going to parties and studing and so forth.

Part of my problem is that you would get blamed for a play going poorly and boosted for a positive play no matter how you performed. I love to play defense and I would play all the positions (D-Line, Backer, and Defensive Back). I fill my gaps, cover my guy and what not but is joe blow can't tackle or do his job, I take a hit in my influence? Nnamdi Asomugha of the Raiders is the best corner in football right now and the NFL says QBs only tested him 31 times last year. If you cover as good as Nnamdi and the computer goes somewhere else adn F-Tard DB gives up big plays, you take a hit and that isn't right.

There needs a better system to gain and lose influence and the result of the play shouldn't be the end-all be-all. A personality ratting and maybe some dialog options ala Head Coach need to be concidered. I would realyl like it if there was a version of superstar that was LIKE head coach but from the player's perspective. There also needs to be an off-the-field life. I don't expect or really want cut sceens or any thing, but an idea of going to parties like Adam Jonesor staying home to study film like Manning would alter your experiance. Staying home to study affects your popularity, but going to parties can have negative effects - i don't expect Adam Jones style because of the NFL wanting a clean image, but more along the lines of Awareness or what ever major skill like Man coverage or play recognition takes a dive as you neglect your responciblities.

Maybe this is all in madden 09. I just know that the system is broken and not much fun to play at all so I stop shortly after I start. This is yet anothe r example of why Madden needs a good instruction booklet.

Again, Superstar should be the player's POV on Head Coach. You walk the sidelines, talk to the D-Cordinator, listen to your postion coach, plan your next defesive serise, etc. With better play calling, the Captain option to alter the play if you are the Safty or MLB, and better on-field sound would make this great. I don't expect EA to have cursing and such like real life, but players talking "clean" smack would both be cool and funny at times. Calling out match ups and hearing the crowd get into it as well. The NFL is loud and Madden Supoerstar, and Madden in general, is quite.

An overhaul in game play/presintation and off the field work needs to be done.

I know Ian stated in a thread awhile back that the same person who did Head Coach is doing franchise, I'm thinking we've seen the last of superstar mode. It makes no sense for them to spend time on the mode when largly people don't play it.

Superstar mode is like pulling wisdom teeth, its just painful man.

well I also think if they keep franchise mode how it was in 09 for the next two years..it would also become unplayable..I agree that superstar mode as it is is very hard to deal with..but the whole concept of being able to be rookie coming into the nfl is almost every football fans dream..so its unplayable because they havent really built on to that concept.

I wholeheartedly agree. I loved being able to go from high school to college, and then to the pros. Thats was a great concept, but the implementation was wrong. Or, like you said they didn't build on the idea enough...and left it up to the calender...which as horrible.

Also, the game plays different in this mode. They tried to make it so hard when your a young player that...you don't want to play the mode long enough to become a 2nd or 3rd year starter.

...they just dropped the ball with this mode altogether. Like I said...it has no presentation...those emails, text messages, and interviews are just...

It needs some major work, I'll just leave it at that.

The other problem is that you start right away. If you were Brady Quinn, you start... but he didn't.

I know EA wants you to get in the action and play, but this is where the long term RPG element comes in. If you want to play superstar, the GOAL is to get you to play it all the way through nad try to be a SUPERSTAR and a Hall of Fame player. It takes work and it takes time. Ronnie Lott started becasue the 49ers had terrible D, Joe Montana however was a backup to Steve DeBurg. Brady was the 4th string QB his rookie year and the backup his second and injury brought him in. The Matt Cassel story is similar. Matt was a 2 year back up and was handed the keys to the Porche and drove it rather well leading his team to 11-5 and a great game against the Jets.

I would love to have that RPG liek feel and liek I wrote before in game Head Coach feel instead of this sim untill you are back on the field and play three downs and blah blah blah.

Superstar mode (conceptually) was so awesome to me that I sat up for 3 hours repeating the draft until the Dallas Cowboys selected me.

It's the calender, and how the events on the calender play out. Plus, nothing is fluid or breath-taking about it at all. No cut scenes, no fan fair, no real glimpse of what it would really be like to be a superstar...and the great thing in my mind was the way they let you choose what kind of player you wanted to be...

A SS RPG game would be kick @$$. Go all out on presentation and what not. I always thougtht that with some of the crap titles EA has released(NFL tour) they could've made a NFL Superstar game.
