Team Overall difference between Play Now/Franchice

We are about to start our Online Franchise, I'm curious why the Team OVR are so different between the 2?

For Example
Play Now/ Online Franchise
Eagles - 89/85
Saints - 88/81
Cowboys - 87/83
Patriots - 87/79
Falcons - 86/77
Rams - 86/81
Colts - 86/78
Packers - 85/75
Panthers - 85/79
Steelers - 85/79

It's been like that for years I think... at least I remember reading something about it years ago. IIRC, it's because Play Now is calculated on straight player ratings, but the CFM it's calculated with bonuses and/or nerfs taken into account for players matching the scheme of the coach. Like I said, I read that years ago... and it might have never been correct to begin with... but it made sense at the time.

If I had to guess I’d say play now ratings comes from players top archetype rating and franchise comes players true talent rating

Play now is a developer assigned overall rating, in CFM it's actually calculated by the ratings of your roster.

I had this broken down in a spreadsheet for my league. A few guys above hit on stuff already. I believe pre release Team OVR are based on Play Now ratings and they also use True OVR for player ratings (not archetype OVR). When you bring a roster into CFM you get archetype OVR for player ratings but it also takes into account more players (CB3, MLB2 etc) into the calculation. Offensive OVR doesn't drop too much and even goes up in some instances (Hello Bears...) but all teams generally take a hit on Defensive OVR (Rams D drops from 86 to 79 but Rams O increases from 83 to 85, total Team OVR change -4).

This is the correct reason, unless it has changed since Donny Moore left (doubt it).

He stated that the play now ratings were nothing more than a number he felt the team deserved, whereas in CFM it was the result of a calculation.

I have questions about that calculation though because I've seen some curious things, like a team having both offense and defense rated at 83 but overall is 70 something.
