New depth chart slots - what circumstance triggers them?

We all are aware of the new depth chart slots - that are listed after 3DRB... they are

RLE - pass rush specialist LE
RRE - pass rush specialist RE
RDT - pass rush specialist DT
SUBLB - sub at LB
SLCB - slot cover CB specialist

- so we know their names but my question is WHAT OCCURS IN THE GAME THAT GETS THESE DEPTH CHART PLAYERS INTO THE GAME?

example : 3DRB subs this RB on every 3rd down...

From what I see the pass rush his come in when you call nickel, dime, quarter and dollar. Might be missing one. For sublb its the same thing I believe. Slcb covers the slot, some guys are just better at it.

Slot would be the nickel corner so when there's 3 CBs the slot would cover the slot receiver. PWHB comes in on certain formations, slot receiver comes in on three wide sets as the slot receiver.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of exactly how this happening. The defensive changes are less bothersome. It just means my DEs or OLBs stay on the field in passing situations, depend on who I want rushing the QB. The slot works well, because I have Jerry Rice in that role, and as my WR1. If I go with 3 or more receivers, he moves inside, which moves my WR3, Treek Hill outside instead of the slot.

But I don’t want Kareem Hunt coming off the field on 1st down just because I line-up with extra receivers.

But this is a nice start, and I’m figuring out workarounds that make it better than before, even if it is still not exactly how it should be.

3DRB is now just pass catching back that comes in on Shotgun 3WR+ formations, Power Back comes in on 3TE or 2TE/FB sets, Rush Ends, Tackles, and Sub LB are all in nickel/dime/quarter/dollar defenses and Slot CB/WR and the inside guys for 3+WR/CB sets. And yes you can set the same HB to all 3 RB spots as well as your WR/CB 1/2 to the slot and have WR/CB shift outside

If you actually put a lower overall player, in those slots, you'll notice when that specific slot is utilized for your playbook.
By default, you probably aren't noticing anything because your best DE is your RLE or best DT is your pass rush.

Most are quite straight forward with 3+ WR sets on offense or Nickel/Dime packages on defense.


I think with additional formations subs and some manual subs, you'll get the players you want on the field at any time.
