Yes, I was messing with these recently and ran 4 games in a test franchise with the CPU assigned default books. On offense the games were better and less 4 verts calls or PA on 3rd and long calls. On defense, the engage 8 is gone and defense is more reliable for the CPU.

Re: Madden 17 Everything Playbooks (custom) for the CPU or user

I finally bit the bullet and did the workaround in a franchise game, and wow! It's hard to overstate what a difference a well-pruned playbook and game plan makes. I saw a GL fade, great targeting of the primary receiver during drives, just a much smarter game overall.

This makes me think that if they would actually have whoever's responsible for this feature develop it thoughtfully, it could be an amazing feature.

As it stands, it's so neglected and poorly managed that the current game plans actually hurt the game in franchise mode (the PA on 3rd and long, the 4 verts on 3rd and long, the engage eights from the CPU defense, I could go on).

I'm really appreciative of the folks who do this work. I thought the workaround would be a huge pain and not worth it, but it took 10 minutes and I could see the payoff in just one quarter of a game. It was amazing.

For those who have created a defensive PB for yourself, not the CPU, and use the coaches suggestion/strategy for play calling. Are your plays not showing up?

No matter what I do, I can't seem to get my custom defensive plays to show under the coaches suggestion -> strategy section.

Does creating a custom offensive playbook for yourself have any negative game effects?

Not thus far, from my experience. I've been using an offensive playbook for the longest with no issues.

Re: Madden 17 Everything Playbooks (custom) for the CPU or user

I've read every page of this thread today looking for a clear statement of how the star system works and I'm still a tad unclear.

I've gathered that 1/2 star makes a play available for the CPU to use and that this is why the generic books are better than the default books, since more plays have at least a half a star in the generic books than in the default books.

I've gathered that 2 1/2 stars for all plays within a given situation makes them get called with equal frequency, but that you can tilt a situation toward the run by giving run plays in a run situation 4 stars and pass plays 1 1/2 or 2 stars. This can be flipped in passing situations.

I've gathered that giving a handful of plays that are signature plays for a team or that go to signature players will make those plays more likely to be called but won't make them be called all the time.

Are there any other tidbits for offense that I should know if I want to start working on my own books?

And what do we know about how the star tiering works for defense?

I've seen conflicting information about whether or not there are limits to how many plays you can put in a given situation--some have said unlimited plays can be added, and others have said that up to 30 can be added.

Is there any clarity on that, whether for offense or defense?

I'm still trying to figure out how to get plays classes in the strategy section. I've made playbooks with 20 plays per situation, still doesn't work. The suggestion section works, but they don't call plays according to your scheme or structure of the playbook.

Re: Madden 17 Everything Playbooks (custom) for the CPU or user

First off thanks for all the work you did customizing the playbooks, secondly this has been a game changer for me. I was so tired of seeing the CPU run stupid plays on both sides of the ball I almost put Madden down but this has put the "life" back into the game for me. I've had a 2nd controller and never thought much about using to alter game play until I read the OP.... I cant get coach or owner to work (Xbox 1 without the dog pile and the O leaving the field crap) but create a player works sweet! The only tiny issue is my camera goes back to default whenever I create a player.... no biggy because this work around is the best way to get great game play IMO. Thanks again
