Exactly.

Offensive coordinators do it to some degree as well. You could put any combination of pass routes together, but some make more sense and accomplish certain things. Mike Martz of the 99, 00 & 01 Rams was famous for creating new plays every week. I would never expect Madden to get on that level.

Agreed. I was told that by devs back in 2010. Something they should've done when they supposedly "rebuilt Madden from the ground up" for this generation.

The problem was/is that the offensive assignments are tied to the defensive calls. Giving that freedom to the defense would break those assignments. With offensive players supposedly blocking areas instead of assignments this year, maybe it's coming in the near future.

They need to at least add to the pre-existing combinations and make similar versions available in all similar fronts. 4-3 base, over, under, etc, for example, should all have the same/similar "plays" available.

This is the first information I've read about Madden 17 and if this pans out, it could be a good year for football gaming.

Hopefully franchise mode is updated with a sports ticker and espn integration or cbs .

Huh? DPI was called much more last year than ever. Before last year, it was non-existent.

I want so badly for this to be the football game of the century. I was excited when I first read this. Then I just went back and read the 'amazing new features and realism' advertising and hype of each edition of Madden back to '08. Needless to say this tempered my excitement quite a bit. If most of those promises had turned out half as good as they sounded before release, I would be more optimistic this year. Going through this hope every year gives me tired-head. That being said, my inner sports heart still won't give up hope, even though my brain tells it differently. Just one time I want my heart to be right.

My brain will not allow my heart to buy it upon release this year. But I will be tuned in to Operation Sports to get an idea of whether this game delivers. Please don't break my sports-heart again.
