High draft picks released

Anybody else noticing this? Seen some guys drafted in the first 3 rounds this year being released in the preseason cuts in Franchise.

Phillip Dorsett, Tevin Coleman, and Duke Johnson are a few of the players I'm seeing cut.

Is this the type of thing that can be fixed by tuning?

Re: High draft picks released

This has been talked about a few times. This is likely not something that can be fixed by tuning because it isn't a bug and nothing is broken; the game is working as intended here.

What's happening is that, in CFM, the AI coaches do not see these players rated highly according to their scheme-specific OVR ratings. For example, the AI Colts GM sees Dorsett as the worst WR on the team. The AI appears to only take scheme-specific OVR into account when addressing roster construction, notably ignoring draft status completely. As such, it doesn't matter that Dorsett was a first-round pick, the AI Colts just see him as a bad player, so the AI cuts him.

The adjustment that needs to happen to make people here happy is the game needs to have a more robust roster management AI which values youth a bit more and takes into account draft status (first- and second-day picks are almost never cut). This is probably not something to expect in a tuner or a title update, this is more likely something new Tiburon would have to build and introduce for Madden NFL 17 / next.

I have noticed some strange things as well. I was playing against the Rams in my Franchise and Austin Davis was starting. I thought Nick Foles must be hurt, but it turns out he wasn't even dressed for the game. 3 QBs with much lower ratings were ahead of him on their depth chart.

I completely agree and while I know a lot of people do not agree with me and some have freaked out on me in the past I absolutely hate the schemes and how peoples overalls change based on the schemes, not to mention this year so far you cant "save and exit" when in the scheme screen so whatever you change doesnt save lol.

But back to the OP, a good fix for this is right before you start your CFM go into free agency and just dumb a lot of the players down, the AI coaches see these 70+ rated free agency people like Earl Bennett (WR) just as an example as more valuable then people like Dorsett..........so dumb them way down and then veterans who no NFL teams want in real life will be desirable in madden lol.

People won't be able to circumvent this somehow with their own created rosters?

Building a new roster where all the free agents are dumbed down a bit is probably the best workaround for this year.

Also bear in mind how the AI gets to its OVR rating for its scheme. In the case of Phillip Dorsett - his Size, Durability, and Intangible sub-grades are all low relative to other players on his team. I don't think you can change his height / weight, so you're stuck on the Size grade, but the Durability grade ought to be easy to raise by increasing INJ / TGH (most of the rookies have low ratings in these two categories this year). Raising those two alone may be enough to get the AI to keep him. If it's not, then raise the Intangible grades the Colts AI GM values (I think they value Route Runner WRs, so RRT would be the most useful rating to increase).

Wow. This is a major screw up. I hope everyone making rosters is aware of this and implements it into their files. Absolutely ridiculous that a QB with a 58 rating would be starting over Files with an 80 rating.

There is no way to change the schemes for each team, is there?

Thanks for the advice.

Re: High draft picks released

waiting for the final rosters and playing your franchise from the start of the season (skipping preseason) would at least solve the problem for the first season.

so there's something. lol
