Giving Up A Big Play Every Game?

I have played nearly 20 games so far (testing sliders until a few days ago) and one thing has been consistent: I give up a 35+ yard play. If it's a bad playcall, I'm fine--like a 62-yard seam vs cover 2 in the last 2 minutes vs the Cardinals in my CFM.

Same game, which was actually the best game I've played since the very first game, had my stats skewed by 1 play: 80-yard passing TD on a slant vs Man. I put my 91 Press/87 Man rookie in press coverage on the play and... he didn't press. He didn't go through any animation whatsoever resembling a beat press or anything like that on the play. He just started a backpedal and followed 5 yards behind the WR (reason I pressed--and shaded inside, too--was because I actually thought the slant was coming). It wasn't a bunch or tight formation either--it was 11 personnel, TE and Slot right, HB next to QB on the left. Ryan Mallett (their QB in year 2--I have Carson Palmer, ironically) finished 25/43 354 3 TD 4 INT in a game where I otherwise had a great defensive battle: outside of that 1 play, I held them to 291 yards and only had 250 myself. Won the game, though, 28-21 after Mallett threw his 4th INT.

A game two days earlier: 37-yard swing pass on 3rd and 8 from their own 9: my defender refused to do a conservative tackle on the sideline. His head actually whipped from left to right very fast because the HB's shoulder hit his facemask on the play. My LB just did a stutter step from within 2 feet and stopped after the HB passed by.

67-yard TD run by Eddie Lacy in week 1: a conservative tackle failed to trigger 5 yards downfield and no interaction happened on a dive tackle that hit Lacy from the side in the waist after ~10 yards.

Slider-testing CFM game vs Ravens, 42-yard TD on a slant vs man: Janoris Jenkins dives and his right shoulder/bicep hits the WR in the hip/waist as he turns upfield. Nothing happens again.

Slider test game vs Ravens (same CFM, just kept replaying the game for sliders), 65 yard rushing TD by Ray Rice: DT pushes LG into backfield on a Shotgun run to the left and OLB immediately runs into the DT. Ray Rice stumbles into his C while my CB engages the C and my FS runs into him. I change players to my MLB and do a conservative tackle, only to see him stop, then dive after I switch players again (because Rice had started to pass him by then) tackling my CB, who was disengaging. During this--all of which happened in under 3 seconds and within 2 yards of the LOS--the rest of my defense apparently collapsed on the offensive linemen to the play side, knocking everyone out of the play. He had 3 linemen/TE in front of him and I didn't have a player withing 20 yards when he scored. I couldn't even react to what happened at first... I've never been so absolutely shocked on a single play in a game before.

Is anybody else experiencing this or am I just crazy?

What can I say, I've given up some big plays, which is actually relieving to me at times to see that the CPU does have a pulse somewhat and not just operate with machine like precision within 10 yards of the line of scrimage. I gave up an 80 yard TD run on the first play of the game to the Broncos. I hadd my defense psyched to stop Manning and missed three tackles in hilarious fashion.

Look this stuff happens. The more you worry about it happening the more it's going to occur. Big plays are either an anomaly or because the defense did something wrong. Just shrug it off and move on. The game is a struggle and the more you let stuff like that eat at you, the more you lose that struggle.

I find the game is scripted. No matter what play you try the CPU will find a waypast your defence. (If you're playing offline obviously). It seems whenever their offence audibles they'll make the play. This is the first Madden i've played for a number of years but it's not me but theCPU who cheeses now! I had an offence who had 25 plays for 52 yards and scoring a touchdown.

If you know how to read an offense and know the correct defense to call in the correct situation none of this happens. This isn't like past Madden games where you could call any defense at random, if you do that this year the CPU will carve you up like a Thanksgiving Turkey.

You may very well be right. After all, CPU knows what play you call but you don't know what play CPU calls.

just played a game yesterday against the I gave up 3 big passes the first happen on a 65 yard pass from bridgewater and not sure if its because it always happen's on side that haden's not on.


I know last yr or before that was a glitch where the cb wouldn't press and the wr would run right by the cb for easy td's.


that pass resulted in a td.... then I had another one for 51 yards the wr got behind my defense but I was able to run him down and stop the td.


the 3rd was on a nice play by the qb he found his wr on the sideline ALL alone for 36 yard pass.


I may have to switch up cb's and see if the other's play better then skrine because just like in real life he gets burnt a lot.

I'm actually calling a pretty good defensive game when these happen. I get burned on the wrong call (like the seam vs Cover 2) every once in a while or Janoris Jenkins will get burned by a wheel route vs Cover 3 with his lower zone stats. My rookie backup SS can't cover crap on his own and I'm stuck with him because of injury, so I usually bring in a 4th CB (Trumaine Johnson) at SS and man blitz out of one of the Nickel sub packages for the best coverage on key 3rd downs and user Laurenaitis for a sort of hook zone, leaving the HB open (QBs never seem to hit them when pressured).

I call 4-3, 4-4 or 46 sub-package zones when they come out with ace/I-Form personnel or it's an obvious running situation. If I'm ever in man and see any sort of bunching on the play, I will switch to a zone and base align. I make sure I have outside leverage on basically every play. I know how to call a defense and when I'm burned on a good play call.

A 52-yard drive that took 25 plays??? That's barely over 2 yards per play... were there multiple penalties involved??? I ask because the one thing that drives me crazy is that the CPU (I play CFM Off-line) seems to always have drives of 9 plays 77 yards and only takes 2:00 - 2: 25 off the clock.

The only time this was not the case was a game I played against the Ravens - they actually controlled the ball - and the clock - and it felt like I was actually playing against someone who has an understanding of the game of football.

The game ended and both teams - Ravens/Oilers - had 25 first downs.
