Is tackling overpowered?

Im new to Madden, and bit of a beginner with NFL, so I only notice the larger issues with the game. I know football diehards can spot flaws that I cant.

But to me, the overpowered tackling is the main thing. After seeing that Doug Baldwin TD today, the 1st thought that popped in was that couldnt happen in Madden. He would have been flattened by the first tackler. Once the CPU decides to tackle, that's it. Even if you manage to shake it, you're running in concrete and easy pickings for a secondary tackler.

The precision moves available lack any sort of speed or zip, especially in bang-bang situations.

Ive lowered the CPU and my tackling to 0 and see some more broke tackles (more so after catches rather than running) but not nearly enough. This has also had the effect of nerfing the CPU's FG kicking ability (I have no idea why these things are linked).

Is this just me sucking at the game, or do you find the CPU are too good at tackling also?

Re: Is tackling overpowered?

I hear you, those kinds of plays where you break multiple tackles are rare, they happen (not with animations similar to what Baldwin did necessarily but they break tackles) though. But it mostly would happen with some players with really spectacular stat ratings for trucking and elusiveness from what I've seen, even then it doesn't happen much. But what I do notice is oftentimes the CPU has no problems busting through multiple tackles like Baldwin too often lol

My belief on this is that people still haven't gotten used to the fact that you have to set up moves early, and use the R stick moves well before the defender gets there. All of the 'highlight' film material I have seen has been people that are not using sprint and start their move a few yards before contact.

Yeah, it's weird. It feels more like this on NG, IMO. I play with the falcons and Steven Jackson has 92 TRK and 95 stiff arm which are my favorite moves. I played 2 seasons with him before he retired. I feel like I broke maybe 5-10 tackles. That's lame. And, I occasionally got the stiff arm animation, but it wouldn't actually break the tackle, so for me, yes, tackling is overpowered in madden NG. In CG, it was almost too easy to break tackles, so I'm not sure what happened there.

Which is fine, but it doesnt allow quick second decisions.

As an example, I was running through a hole in the line. Once of the tackles got off his blocker just as I buzzed through, by the time it happened I was tackled.

The window to do a move is far too early

Tackling really is UNDERpowered. Tiny speed backs can throw LBs off them with one arm easily in this game.

I saw that all the time in CG, but it feels totally opposite for NG. I never see broken tackles by me or the CPU.

Re: Is tackling overpowered?

In NG, I have CBs with 30 tackling that are bringing down people like AP and Eddie Lacy 1 on 1. I think someone with 95+ trucking would almost always beat a CB like that. But not only that, they are getting trucked by the CB who also has about a 25 hitpower! Doesnt seem realistic. Makes ppl like rodgers-cromartie too OP
