Madden vs. MLB The Show

Which Franchise option needs more attention/more fixing? Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong place, just curious what everyone thinks, and since Madden just released, this thread is more viewed than The Show.

Re: Madden vs. MLB The Show

I think the number one thing that has to be put in your question is whether you just control YOUR team or a 30/32 Team Control guy. As a 30/32 team control guy my opinions are going to be really different than a single team control guy.

- MLB The Show had some mistakes in this year's franchise that weren't in past years. Being new to next gen Madden I've only simulated one season to see what is in-store for me. I can tell you one issue that I see immediately is that is an absolute time consuming mess to control the whole league (obviously that started in Madden 13).

- Being a total control franchise guy, I don't have to deal with signing/trade/draft logics. And b/c I don't have to deal with those logics and I run every team, I'm more in-tune with my league which creates the storylines that keeps the longevity of your franchise interesting. I imagine the one team control guys will have more of a need for storylines etc. for the developers to create for you.

Yeah, it's more of an overall, general experience, question. Since 2000, both games have changed drastically in one way or another. So whether you control every team vs. not, really makes no difference. Franchise modes in both games are shells of what they used to be. So that's where my question is leaning to. And I agree, I'm a one team control guy, and storylines are lacking definitely.

Re: Madden vs. MLB The Show

This is my first year in a while buying Madden and playing Franchise, but comparing M24 to The Show 23, and I’d have to give the edge to The Show. Now if Madden comes out and nails the immersion next year, that could change for sure. Both are solid, if somewhat stale modes.

I played a lot of PS2 Madden and Xbox360 Madden the last 10 years - this game is very in-depth in franchise mode. I've said already in other threads maybe too in-depth. People who think these games have went backwards drastically off the field need to go back and play the old games. I think the presentation of off the field may have been more imaginative but the execution isn't all that much better.

Sometimes less is more - One thing I absolutely love (unless I haven't found it yet) I don't have a need for some statistics b/c they are irrelevant and you only notice them when they are off. DROPS - I didn't see drops on the NFL leaderboard; why in past games would we want to see this stat? One stat that I wish was taken out 20 years ago but I think it's still in Madden: 20+ yard runs - I loathed when a RB on NCAA would run for 1,800 yards and average 6 yards per carry but have 2 20+ runs. Something are better left up to imagination if the numbers line up elsewhere. Does anyone really want to see a total on O-Linemen Pancakes? Maybe I'm in the minority but little things like this would help games b/c less would go wrong. On MLB the Show we have to have different Sim Sliders for simulated games to fix the complete game & shutout issues. Sim Stats need to be legit in every game's franchise mode or the experience is crap right off the get-go.

Wait Until NCAA comes out next year and you can't have full control over the whole country's depth charts and you have to live through another era of 5th Year QBs starting over 5 Star recruits b/c they have 2pt overall rating advantage b/c the progression & logic sucks. At least Madden & The Show gives you the option for full control.

Nostalgia will fool you - I've seen on this year's game where they did a nice job of not making the top draft prospects from small schools; go play Madden12 and see how many major prospects are from small schools. You can edit them with the editor or fix them after the draft but the experience of drafting the number 5 pick from Hofstra was not that exciting.

Or How about on NCAA when they had the in-game updates on other games but completely ruined the sim-engine trying to create excitement and you constantly had 1-AA Southeast beating the number #5 team in the country. It was misery at the end of the year trying to get realistic match-ups in the BCS games.

I'm ok with how NCAA handled depth charts honestly. Not every 5 star starts right off the bat, so I didn't even care about that. I miss the Tony Bruno Show, and even in the earlier Madden's, they had the newspaper that would talk about so and so's return. For instance, A Rodg returns to Lambeau, would've been a headline. Little things like that. NCAA, in my opinion, was superior to Madden both on and off the field. The recruiting was fun. With FA in Madden and MLB, it's still too easy to win over a player. I also loved the NCAA violations and reduced scholarship penalties. Or the random discipline of a player for skipping class in NCAA.

Re: Madden vs. MLB The Show

The Suspensions etc. were not EA’s doing - the NCAA told them to take that stuff out of the game. It was awesome though.

It depends on what's important to you. Immersion is at the bottom of my list of priorities. What matters most to me is that we get a good GM simulator that's deep and allows most of the same roster and contract functionality as real life, and then mixes that with a smart AI where I can control just my own team and feel like the other 31 teams are making smart, logical moves that benefit their franchises.

Neither Madden nor The Show do as good a job of this as they could, nor as good a job as older versions of the games did. Both games have made the offseason process much more opaque and confusing than it needs to be, or used to be as well. I want easy access to the player profiles of every guy at the click of a button, and I want the game to notify me every single time I succeed or fail at signing a player. If anyone I've made an offer to signs anywhere, I want a screen to pop up and tell me so. Any information that a real life front office would have easy access to, I want to have at my fingertips. I want the game to hold my hand as much as possible.
