More realistic possible rating scale for Madden.

Hi all,

So i have been a supporter of trying to get Dan at FBG into the new rating czar position, while i think that would be amazing i also think it is highly improbable that it would happen. Dan's rating scale is a drastic change from the Donny ratings and i do not think EA would be willing to make that big a change. I also know that Dan seems highly stubborn and would not really make any alterations to appease EA.

So the topic at hand is i read an article over on the 2k forum about how they are re-scaling their ratings on an "all time scale" Meaning the only 99 overall player is Jordan, a 99 in three point shooting would go to a Steve Kerr, 99 Rebound Rodman etc. All current players are compared by how they perform against those GOATS (greatest of all time) and rated accordingly. So in their current game they use rebounding example and the player with the best rebounding in the game is like a 92 or 93 he is good, but no Rodman.

I hope my readers digest versions was clear and implore everyone to read the article below as i feel this would be a great way to make some ratings spread in the game.

The biggest difference is that basketball lends itself to a stats based rating system where individual performances can really highlight how good or bad players are. A good shooter is a good shooter. In football scheme, teammates, coaching have a much more tangible effect on how many players are perceived and therefore rated. Wide receivers are dependant on the qbs who are dependant on their line. LeBron doesn't really have to rely on anybody to put up a good performance. That's why you can have breakout stars in football and less so in basketball.

This is not a test.

Does NBA = NFL?

Lets do this test, if you trot out 25-30 year old Jordan on the court today is he still the best quite possibly.

Now lets look at Montana, Elway, Marino, Favre....? They would be just another top 10 QB likely.

When Gronk gets a 99 he literally is the BEST of all time and when Rodgers gets his 99 its because he literally is the BEST of all time on a season by season basis.

I am not arguing that Rodgers > Montana but what I am saying is that they both take the field for the same team in 2015 that Rodgers would perform by far better.

Now they could do a better job of rating players but since you brought up FootballGuys then I would assume you already know these issues:
Players breakout, have games out of their minds, regress on a yearly basis, and player talent < team talent.

I want to focus on the last one as to many people forget that it takes more than just a collection of players to make a good team. If they were to bring in anyone new I would hope they would worry less about if Brown should get 94 or 95 catching and more about how the team all feeds off one another.

I would LOVE to see Madden bring in something similar to FUT where you have connections between the team that help them perform at their level and above. This rating system would not be specially for MUT but would be a ever present connection between players taking into account a whole host of things.

PS - Unlike some I hope 2K never gets a football game back. The only thing they do properly is NBA. Its like clamoring for Sony to bring back football because The Show is one of the top couple sports games each year. Rather see someone else take a stab at football just to push EA a little more at time, but its highly likely to fail...

Re: More realistic possible rating scale for Madden.

the problem with the ratings is how much they effect EVERYTHING. even in CFM, you see the CPU make a great pick at a position of need. awesome! then the season comes around, and they have signed some out of work for a year FA ranked a couple points higher(how many years did Felix Jones etc need to be rated like they were still playing in the league?)

to me, I want to be able to notice a difference when I am playing. with the current system...I think there are too many ratings and variables. I know I shouldn't, but I will point to 2k8. you could tell what skills a bronze player had in comparison to another. you noticed everything. in madden I have always felt like I can take a scrub and do just as well with him. OVR has been totally irrelevant to the gaming experience for awhile, now it just screws up CFM....
