Re: Las Vegas Hockey

Rookie team challenges one of the Original Six

There is only one battle left in this season of NHL, rookie team Las Vegas Outlaws will face Original Six and one of the most legendary teams in the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Leafs were the last team on Eastern Conference to make it to the playoffs, but the beat the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1, then they won Buffalo Sabres in a dramatic series 4-3, Leafs were losing the series 3-1, but they won three games in a row and moved to the next round. There we saw a real classic, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. Leafs' offense was too much for Canadiens and Leafs won the series 4-1.

Meanwhile
Las Vegas was 7th in Western Conference they face Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the playoffs. Oilers' Patrick O'Sullivan was on fire, but the Outlaws moved on with 4-1 series win. Then they played against the Presidents' Trophy winner Dallas Stars, there were much less mistakes, but Stars lost the series 4-1. After that it was Las Vegas and Los Angeles Kings. Kings fought hard in the first match, but after that Outlaws offense just rolled over the Kings defense and goalies.

Maple Leafs and Outlaws, old and new,
Canada and USA. For sure many hockey fans are supporting Toronto because they much more history than Outlaws. And when you compare the fans between Toronto and Las Vegas, you might think that there is no hockey fans in Las Vegas, but they have sold out almost every game of their history and they have been one of the loudest fans in the NHL.

Here are the expected lines for the Finals:

Juhamatti Aaltonen who joined the Las Vegas Outlaws was claimed of waivers to Toronto in the start of the season. If this series would have to be decided on offense, it would be pretty tight, Outlaws' captain Jeremias Santala is the soul of Outlaws' first line, as Arttu Niinimaa takes care of second line and third and fourth line are usually ment to shutdown the opposition, but once in a while they take the game to their own hands and start to score. Leafs' offense is great, they have lots of young and skillful players like Phil Kessel and Matthew Clark. Alexander Semin is one of the best players in the NHL, and he is the leading scorer for the Leafs in the playoffs.

Leafs' defense is full of veterans like Tomas Kaberle and Mike Van Ryn, there is also two younger guys, Luke Schenn and Dion Phaneuf. Phaneuf is one of the best hitters of the league and he has got a great shot, Kaberle is a great fit to play alongside Phaneuf, he brings so much to his team and he is a powerplay specialist. Luke Schenn and Francois Beuchamin are both great hitters and they can also score when they need to.

Outlaws' has a solid defense, Riku Kapanen, Roope Rinne and Henri Markkanen are all excellent offensive defenseman's, everyone of them broke 50 point mark in the regular season. Then the 3rd pair is balanced, Ville Kiprusoff is very good offensive defenseman and Ville Vallin takes the defensive job. And then Mikko Holopainen, the suprise of the playoffs. Holopainen scored six goals and 32 points in the regular season and now he has already got seven goals 27 points in just 14 games! He is very, very good in the defensive end and he is a great passer, he tooked over Ville Vallin's place in the Powerplay in the series' against the Stars and he has kept the place.

Then there are the goalies. Leafs' have Stanley Cup-winner Jean-Sebastian Giguere and he has played really well in the playoffs. And his backup James Reimer isn't that good to play many games in the Finals.

Outlaws' goalie Lauri Immonen has been amazing in this years playoffs, he has faced over 40 shots in many games and he has got incredible 8 assists in the playoffs, that is more than Leafs' forward Matthew Clark has assists, and Clark has played in the second line all the time.

Overall, Outlaws has scored more goals and let in less goals than Maple Leafs, but Outlaws' PP and PK % is not good, so this is going to be a tight series from start to finish.

What a nice win. 10 to 1. Did they have a goalie that game?

Best of luck in the Finals. Lets go Leafs.

They started with Nabokov, but he was tossed after my 5-1 goal, I had ever played so good hockey than I played in the last period, my passes were great, I even kept the puck at Kings end in PK, LA had only 1 shot on goal in the last period and I had about 25 shots on goal. Bernier was pretty good and made great saves, but he let 5 goals in.
