An AFL Experience- Seattle Seahawks

Hello all, I am going to be starting a CFM in Madden 17 with Raiderz4eva and CWSapp Present AFL- American Football League fictional rosters! Remember, all players all fictional, so you won't be seeing names you are use to seeing in the box score! You can check out the main thread on slider info/ updates. I'm rolling with the Seattle Seahawks who finished 6-10 last year in the AFL. You can check the PDF for league history of the AFL, Team information, Offensive & Defensive Scouting Reports, as well as last years draft recap. I will be looking to rebuild and retool this team for the future, so here's to a long road ahead!

Backstory:
A new era of Seattle Seahawks football is here with the hiring of coach Justin Halsne Sr. He is the father of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB, Justin Halsne. He was the QBs coach/ assistant HC with the AFL Championship winning Cleveland Browns. He was known as the QB guru within the Browns Franchise helping Nathan Russell develop the past 5 years into the QB he is today. Prior to his experience with the Browns, Justin Halsne was a long time backup for the Dallas Cowboys sitting behind the old time vet Andy Netherland. His career in the AFL was short lived after getting into a serious car accident that nearly tore off his throwing arm, but that didn't stop him from being involved in the AFL. After recovery from the injury, Justin Halsne went back to the Cowboys as a assistant in the QB room. He learned a lot with his time there that lead him to his gig as the QBs coach for the Browns. The rest is history, and now we are here!

I started this thread after playing all 4 preseason games, so I'll give you a recap of some important storylines going into preseason and how they shook out, along with the final depth chart heading into the season.

Preseason & Final Depth Chart for Regular Season/ Practice Squad:

With problems all around the Seattle Seahawks, I looked to FA to help bolster the depth of the team. The first move I made was signing LT Jeff Yarborough, and moved Raymond Andreozzi to RT. This move helped shore up both tackle spots while keeping the interior of the line the same. I also signed some depth at every position, besides kicker and punter, and wanted every position to duke it out. Nobody's spot was safe, which made it fun to not look at their overalls and just their play on the field. It was very surprising to see 60-65 OVR's making plays out there fighting for a paycheck, and some of them even stuck. But overall, here was some main questions going into the season with answers to follow:

1) Would Harvey Voss be able to hang onto his starting spot after last years poor performance, and hold off back up Jim Hall?

Both QBs played outstanding in the preseason. Both completing over 70% of their passes with no INTs, so it was a tough decision and could honestly go either way. But at the end of the day, the coaching staff felt that Jim Hall didn't do enough to beat out Harvey Voss for his starting spot. Look for Harvey Voss to be a break out candidate with it being a contract year for him.

2) Would Kareem Bryant be able to hold on to his roster spot after getting constantly torched last year?

With new coaching, nobody knew what to expect from Bryant, but it appeared that the new staff saw enough of his game film last year to determine how to move forward. Bryant was stashed on the depth chart and played minimally in games, mostly getting time with 3rd and 4th stringers. It came down to the last cuts, but the staff felt it was necessary to move on. Its a new chapter of Seahawks football!

3) Could the defense rally behind the likes of Akeem Moore and Marques Brown?

The first team D played well all throughout preseason. Having a 3 goalline stands holding them to FGs, a couple TDs (1 pick 6, and strip sack fumble), having a handful of sacks, and 2 Ints. It looks as if the two rookies Brendan Carr SS, and Justin Johnson ROLB are already making strides and having an impact on this D. With Bryants release, Gregg Capers gets the start opposite of Dashawn Ortiz with Mateo Butler in the slot. Free Agent DT Marcus Rice came in and impressed coaches day 1 with his work ethic, and the results showed on the field having 4 TFL, and a sack playing mostly with 2nd/3rd team D in the preseason. He will get the nod over rookie Cleo Humphrey, who will still see the field in sub packages. Overall this D is looking like an improvement from last year already.

Final Depth Chart:
QB: Harvey Voss, Jim Hall

Not a great defensive game for either team.

Time of possession was nearly even between the two teams.

Dolphins QB, Agnew was nearly perfect besides an INT to rookie Brendan Carr.

Dolphins RB Cory Davis was a MAN amongst men.

Re: An AFL Experience- Seattle Seahawks

Week 1 Recap:

Seattle Seahawks (0-1) vs. Miami Dolphins (1-0)

In a game that seemed to be Miami's from the start, thanks to lack luster run D, Seattle fought hard in the 2nd half. The Seahawks put up 20 points in the 2nd half compared to only 3 in the 1st half. Coach Halsne was not too impressed with what he saw on the field quoting, "My grandsons peewee football team could have ran on us today. We did not do a good job plugging up holes, and containing the outside runs. We have got a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball." Seattle gave up 223 yards on the ground to a Miami team that was missing their starter, Jerrah Griffin, but that didn't seem to stop them. Cory Davis filled in nice for them racking up 216 yards on 21 carries with a TD. If Seattle wants to improve on a 6-10 record, they have got to do a better job at stopping the run. Offensively Coach Halsne was content with what he saw quoting, "We didn't get out of the gates fast enough to keep pace with the Dolphins, but we fought hard in the second half. Harvey Voss played pretty good outside of that pick. That was just a great play on the ball by Dolphins CB, Brandon Coleman. In regards to running, we did a good job moving the guys up front. We just didn't do it enough due to the situations we were facing in the second half. We will have to put our team in a better position to run the ball more than 13 times next game if we want to win." Ryan Foster was effective in all aspects of the game racking up over a 100 yards of total offense and a TD (12 carries 66 yards, 4 catches 40 yards). Look for the Seattle O to rely heavily on Foster all year in both the pass and run game. Star WR, Andrew Reddington had himself a day catching 5 passes for 103 yards. After last season, Reddington voiced his concerns with the team and wanted change, if not he wanted to be traded. It looks as if Coach Halsne must have had some nice things to say, because Reddington showed up to OTA's and minicamp ready to work. It looks as if him and Voss worked together over the offseason because the Voss-Reddington connection was in full force.

Game notes:
After sniping rookie Riley Dowling WR off the Broncos practice squad, he came up with a big 4th quarter TD reception that cut the game to 8.
Rookie Brendan Carr had his 1st career INT in the end zone stopping the Dolphins from scoring in the 1st quarter after a tough roughing the kicker call on the special teams unit
Marques Brown and Marcus Rice each had 0.5 sack.
Rookie Justin Johnson was injured in the 1st half with a shoulder injury and returned later in the game racking up 7 tackles.

Next week: Seattle Seahawks (0-1) @ LA Rams (0-1)

Week 2 recap:
Coming into week 2, Coach Halsne named Tarus Shockley the starter opposite Andrew Reddinton, and he sure didn't disappoint racking up 106 yards on 5 catches with a 54 yd TD reception. Coach Halsne made the move quoting, "Shockley has been very explosive the past few weeks in practice, constantly giving Gregg Capers fits on the outside. I wanted to see if it would translate in todays game against the LA Rams, and it did. Kudos to you kid." Ryan Foster looked like Ryan Foster racking up a total of 172yds. 81 of those yards coming from a TD on a HB wheel. His production tapered off in the 2nd half, but did enough on the ground to keep the D honest. The OL played outstanding giving up 0 sacks, and letting Voss have plenty of time in the pocket. Another depth chart change occurred before week 2, as Coach Halsne named Denzel Griffin the starting nickel CB moving forward. Mateo Butler moved to the dime CB in a corresponding move. Coach Halsne was quoting on this move saying, "Butler really struggled during the preseason, but I wanted to give him a chance at the start of the season to get out of his funk. He just doesn't look right out there, and we need to get to the bottom of this. Whether its more reps in practice or the weight room, he needs to get better if he wants to earn PT." The defense gave up 13 points all game (2pts on blocked PAT), in which was a much better effort week 2. The run D slightly improved, but still needs to get better giving up 5.6 yards a pop to starter Malcolm Bell. CB Dashawn Ortiz had a huge forced fumble on a drive that certainly looked like the Rams were at least going to come away with 3. Overall, it was a much improved game for the Seahawks as they picked up their first win against division foe, LA Rams.

Next Week: Seattle Seahawks (1-1) vs San Fransisco 49ers (2-0)
