It's no secret that with Tom Brady no longer on the team, the New England Patriots will be looking for a quarterback to fill the void. Drafting a quarterback to compete with both Jimmy Garoppolo and Jake Locker are one of the options the team is exploring. As of right now, DaRick Justice is high on the teams list of draft prospects. Justice has shown to be a far better passer than his counterparts. Everette Quick is also a potential draftee for the Patriots should the team not be able to get Justice.

With the cap space cleared in the Jerod Mayo trade, the New England Patriots have decided to splurge in free agency a bit. Their target is the former 1st round draft pick Desmond Trufant out of the University if Washington. Trufant spent his first four years with the team that drafted him, the Atlanta Falcons. Signing Trufant would give the Patriots a strong 1-2 punch at the corner position as he would start opposite Logan Ryan. The Patriots pass defense was ranked 6th in the league by the end of the 2016 season.



Hugh Thornton is a big guard that the Patriots would like to have on their roster. Layne Swanson was the Patriots big guard last season but the team struggled against the run and in pass protection. Whether or not Thornton can be an upgrade over Swanson remains to be seen. Thornton, if signed, will get the chance to compete for a role with the Patriots. Thornton, like Trufant, has spent the first four years of his career with the Indianapolis Colts. Indianapolis drafted Thornton in the third round of the 2013 draft.

The New England Patriots let defensive end Rob Ninkovich walk after the final year of his contract leaving Chandler Jones as the top defensive end on the roster. Reportedly, the Patriots do want Rufus Johnson Jr. back on the team but more depth will be needed. The players that the Patriots scouted have very similar attributes, making a decision on who to take difficult. Despite that, Owamagbe Okafor and Jaques Bruton are high on the list of players the team would like to select. Both show nice burst and have good strength. The only issue is who will be available among the two when the Patriots are ready to make a selection in the draft.
