The Wyoming State Grizzlies | CFB25 Teambuilder Dynasty

Welcome to Cheyenne, Wyoming! A new college football program has taken over the state as Wyoming State University has finally created a football program to compete in the Mountain West Conference. The Grizzlies will skip the FCS and move straight to Division I FBS as the rest of the athletic department was making the jump this upcoming year. A large anonymous donation was enough to get the ball rolling. The donation paid for initial uniforms, Marketing, and the initial contract of Head Ball Coach Nick Kaneski. He is under a two year contract to start the program.

The School had received a donation last year to begin the upgrade of the soccer stadium to a full blown football stadium. Protective Stadium will seat approximately 47K fans while showing the Green and Gold throughout the facility. A large Jumbotron in the south endzone being a stand out of the facility.

The field itself will include new sod donated by Cloud Peak Energy, the energy provider of Wyoming. As a result, the field will be the Cloud Peak Energy Field at Protective Stadium.

Head Ball Coach Kaneski does bring some interesting experience to the program. Kaneski was a Offensive Coordinator at Kennesaw State before it’s eventual jump the FBS level. At the time, KSU was ranked a top 10 team for the Seasons Kaneski was there. This will be the coach’s first head coaching role. Along with him is Freddie Wynn, the OC for the Grizzlies, A scheme guru who’s main focus is the bring technique to the offensive players as Coach Kaneski will be calling the plays. The DC, Matt Quinn, is a Master Motivator who will handle all defensive responsibilities.

The schedule has not been announced yet as the details are being confirmed with the MWC. Rivalries are expected with the local teams, such as Wyoming and Colorado State, but one could arise with another team joining the MWC and FBS this year with Alaska International. The two schools competed and are rivals in most other sports.

In terms of the NCAA, the Conferences have been moved to a relegation system. P5 Power conferences (SEC, ACC, PAC12, B10, Big 12) based off of geography (ex. Texas A&M is in the Big 12 and FSU is in the SEC). The lower 5 will partner with their power conference, where every two seasons starting in 25, the best of the lower conference will be promoted where the lesser will be demoted. WSU will begin at the bottom of the MWC and replaced Utah State for rivalries sake.

The weather is starting to cool off here in Cheyanne which means one thing, The first ever college football program in Wyoming State history is getting closer. Coach Kaneski has announced some offensive pieces that will be starting. Senior QB Tyler Olson will start the season under center with juniors Spencer Strickland and Keyonte Tyson will be splitting the carries in the backfield. Coach Kaneski stated that WRs and TEs will be rotated between players until those who stand out and prove that they earned it.

The trenches will consist of a constant group on both sides. Offensively will be OT Kalen Franklin, OT Blake Sutton Jr, OG Demarcus Perkins, OG Jaylin McDonald, and C Max McClure with Tarique Williams rotating in. Joshua Townsend and Koby Garland will be the edge rushers with D’Shawn Weeks and Jarrian Love holding down the middle of the line. Dustin Flint and Kade Bloom will be rotating in.

The Defensive scheme is a 4-2-5 to start the season. Chase Freeman and Bubba Van Claiborne will be the two line backers while Tahj Cooles will see some reps. Outside corners will rotate similarly to the pass catchers with a ton of players seeing snaps. Neiko Solomon and Hunter Haynes will be the deep safeties.

Kaneski stated a formal depth chart will be released prior to the first game while it gets finalized. Regarding redshirts, Kaneski stated that the best 11 will be on the field, no matter the class. He also stated that there would be an open practice before the season started to allow the media to see how the team is looking.

The Grizzlies main helmet was put on display for the media to see at practice. A Forest Green cap with a white facemask, Gold Stripe and the familiar Golden Bear Logo on the right side. The left side will display the players number. On the back of the helmet will be the State Flag of Wyoming. Coach Kaneski said that was a requirement for designing the helmet, as players should show pride of living in a beautiful landscape of Wyoming.
The rest of the uniforms will be displayed throughout the season. Per Coach Kaneski, the Grizzlies will wear green and gold this season, with Green being the primary. The gold uniforms will be debuted for game #6 against New Mexico.

The Grizzlies made their debut at the FBS level and it went about as good as you could expect. They may not have been ready to play directly at the FBS level. The Falcon WRs had speed that the defense could not keep up with. Numerous deep passes were completed against the secondary. BGSU QB Connor Bazelak averaged 25 yards per completion. 4 passes and he would cover the whole field. It can be a long season for the Griz with a pass defense this weak.

For the offense, they struggled in the 1st quarter, pulled it together for 3 scoring drives in the 2nd quarter, then proceeded to turn the ball over and do nothing for the 2ndhalf. On the good side, for two drives in the 4th quarter, true freshman Bryce Frost came in to play QB. He drove the ball well on both drives showing a commanding presence on the field.

After the game, Coach Kaneski had this to say, "We did not execute, nothing more to it. We knew coming into this season that we needed to execute to compete. Without that, it is a long uphill battle."

The next game is at home versus fellow FBS newcomer, Tombstone University. It will be exciting to return to Cheyenne and see the crowd for the first time.

Curious. How many Team Builder teams are in your Dynasty and how good of roster did you start with.

Alaska International eh? You got my interest lol not very often you see people include the ol AK in a dynasty.

Olsen had a rough first outing, but hopefully it was just jitters and he makes better decisions this season. aside from that Notre Dame game you should be in most other contests

In total there is 5. WSU, Alaska International, Tombstone based out of Arizona, Southern Texas (Previous Team builder dynasty I had) and College of Charleston (Where I am from). Wanted to watch how they developed compared to me over the years. I started with the team builder cupcake roster. 68 Overall. Going to be a rough one if we cant figure something out.

It was a team I found off of the Teambuilder reddit page! They looked way to good to not throw in!
