Re: Reviving the Boom | A Seattle Seahawks franchise story

Seattle -- Welcome to the latest installment of my “Morning Coffee” blog, Seahawks fanatics. In this blog, I have some tidbits, musings and rumors to discuss. I’ll be doing a weekly report on all things related the Seattle Seahawks. That could be an injury take, trade takes and even mock draft takes as the season progresses. Hope you join the discussion!

• Well, Seattle has finally done it. Head coach Mike Macdonald has stated in his press conference this morning the Seahawks have benched Matt Corral in favor of Sam Howell. Corral lasted four games as starter in Seattle with the club sporting a disappointing 1-3 record to begin the 2024 season. It’s not too late for the Seahawks to turn it around and reach the playoffs.

• The New Orleans Saints have signed Cam Allen from the Seahawks practice squad. Seattle has signed two-year veteran tight end Cole Turner to the practice squad to fill the vacant spot.

Seattle has signed defensive tackle Trysten Hill to a one-year contract worth $1.85 million. Hill, a former second round pick with five years of experience, has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and most recently New England Patriots. The Seahawks have relegated Cameron Young back to the practice squad.

• Welcome to the NFL, Rookie. Jackson Powers Johnson has had his moment when he was thoroughly destroyed by Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. He’s played well so far but he was outclassed and exploited by Lawrence and the rest of the Giants’ defensive line. Tough game, swallow it and move on.

• After playing 43 snaps in the season opener, Boye Mafe played significantly less in weeks 2 and 3, recording 16 and 11 snaps against the Rams and Bears respectively. Against the Giants, he played 50 downs and played an important role in containing New York’s rushing attack by not letting any runs get to the outside.

• The Seattle Seahawks can add their seventh player to the injury report for this week. Ronnie Harrison Jr suffered a moderate concussion and won’t be available for the next two weeks while he recovers. DeWayne Carter and Carl Lawson are scheduled to be back next week. Click here to view Week 5 injury report.

Isaiah Simmons won’t be hitting free agency next spring. The Hybrid safety/linebacker has agreed to a two-year extension with the Seattle Seahawks. Simmons played outstanding in the season opener and has played consistently since then. Simmons reportedly wanted to be in Seattle for the long run and they’re giving him a chance to develop. So far, so good!

Wow I just learned those links in the blog are actual links to screenshots. Cool.

I like Howell IRL hope he does well for you. Lot of cool storylines in this dynasty already.

Thanks pal.

Thank you. I think I'm going to go with this format going forward. Have brief game recaps but have decent weekly writings to flesh out the stories for the franchise.

• That was an awesome rivalry game between the Niners and the Seahawks. Shame the Hawks couldn’t pull through. I thought the Seahawks’ offense looked far better this week with Sam Howell calling the shots. Despite their rankings, the 49ers still have a great defense and Fred Warner showed why he’s the premier inside linebacker in the NFL.

• The Houston Texans have poached Wayne Ruby from Seattle’s practice squad. Seattle has signed wide receiver Tyquan Thornton to their practice squad. Thornton is a two-year veteran who failed to make an impact in New England after being taken in the second round.

• Adam Trautman will be unavailable for their week 6 game due to “personal reasons”. I’ve been told the tight end won’t return until week 8. We’re wishing him well with whatever personal issues he has.

• Two weeks ago, the Seahawks had 6 players listed on the injury report. That list gets a little lighter this week with DT DeWayne Carter and RE Carl Lawson returning from their injuries. Ronnie Harrison Jr is a gametime decision. DT Johnathan Hankins could return next week and Mecole Hardman could return before Halloween.
