I did try moving Big Ben to the Pats and it worked somewhat. However I decided to try the same techniques above with the Steelers, and as I went along with it Big Ben progressed to an 88 OVR after 4 seasons. I think it's a combonation of coach ratings, and how you build the team around certain players that effects progression. If you draft players your coach has high ratings for, then use Free Agency to pick up big names or resign your big names that are the coach's weaker numbers you will have a team that will progress well.

I think the coach ratings were the one thing we as a whole overlooked the whole time. To think it's been 3 years since this came out and we're now discovering stuff. Amazing.

I think we've unlocked the secret ladies and gentlemen.

Any chance you could try pairing Big Ben with other coaches in the league and seeing how he progresses? If not, I might give it a try. If you're able to definitively show that coaches play that X factor in player progression, you will have a pretty incredible find.

Puja will probably have a roster file for shortly after the draft...I'm not sure how many of the other roster makers will do files this year, with APF coming out and all...

Alright I tried putting Big Ben on the Chargers.

Here's Marty's strengths and weaknesses according to his VIP

Strengths:
RB
FB
OL (C, G, T)
LB (OLB, ILB)
DB (CB, FS, SS)
Special Teams (K & P)

Weaknesses:
QB
DL (DE, DT)
WR
TE

It was harder to build around the Chargers this way because the default team blows goats. However Big Ben progressed a little bit, not much though. He went from his default 79 OVR to an 82 OVR in 3 seasons. Not as significant as if I would have kept him with the Steelers because Marty's QB rating is a few points below Cowher's, while a few points doesn't seem like much I prefer an 88 OVR Ben to an 82 OVR Ben any day.

That's fascinating. Are the coach stats hardcoded into the game or can they be shifted? Because it would be nice if we could shift them, even if the coach on the sideline or the name can't be changed.

I think the coach stats are hardcoded. You'd have to ask someone who knows about that kind of stuff like Finn since he made that splendid roster editor.
