A testament to the quality of this game.

The fact I can go from playing M15 on my XB1 and switch over minutes later and play 2K5 on my 360, and have that game give me the feeling that 1) I don't want to put the controller down and 2) I want to start a new franchise....

...absolutely an amazing testament to the quality of this game (2K5). Everything in the game is about football. The menus are fast, the practice modes are awesome, you have the instruction manual right there on the disc, and the tutorial videos are still interesting (for some reason).

I've previously said that 2K5 and 2K8 have started to show their age (which is true) but there's so many positives going on with these games. The playbooks and lack of screen game are slight issues but everything else is beautiful. 10 years later ppl like myself are still revisiting their old copies of 2K5 and coming away with that feeling of wanting more football. In my eyes, this and 2K8's greatest attributes are the level of user control and risk/reward offered in the gameplay...its simply unmatched by Madden. No absurd motion shifting or wonky eyesore animations or random speed bursts here, just ratings being reflected on the field.

Awesome job 2K!

Also, quick question: Do I need to use a franchise file to be able to use updated rosters in franchise mode? Or, can I simply load a roster file and start my franchise without any issues?

Thanks and Happy Gaming!

You can just load a roster and start a franchise no problem.

Some franchise files do have either updated schedules, draft classes, contracts, etc.

Yup, without a doubt still the best football game ever made. One thing I love ... the PACING of the game, just feels right. Every year I pop this back in xbox, fire it up, and can't stop playing.

Exactly. The random speed bursts in other games are bad looks. Just cheap.

In 2K5, everything is even, if that makes sense. When Randy Moss gets the ball in open field...watch out because the dude is explosive. His ratings speak to that and they are represented on the field. The safety or MLB isn't going to get a NOS boost and hunt him down while taking a wonky pursuit angle.

I still enjoy some Madden because of its advantages over a 10 year old game but 2k5 was a classic that did alot of things that Madden still hasn't matched.

When you do an updated roster, is it easy to do or pretty difficult?

Also, when doing custom schedules/draft classes, are there a bunch of draft classes.? Like could I go from 2004-2014 in draft classes, drafting real players?

I picked this game up used a while ago and skimmed through it. I'll get around to it this offseason some time. Lots of hype to live up to.
