Microsoft, please say it ain't true. If MS lets Sony have online support for Madden/NCAA, and online leagues for ESPN, Xbox will fall.
I have been a supporter of the Xbox since the beginning, but MS has to somehow let developers host their own servers. I know they want to see NFL fever be successful, but it just isn't in the same class as EA and Sega.
Please think of the bigger picture Mr. Gates.

Well I can say, the online leagues for PS2 are for this year. Looks like I'll be spending 100 bucks.

XBOX should have league play.. I can't believe they left that out. That was just stupid and igorent. XBOX should have to same system that PS2 does, control their own servers... but they would have to pay XBOX a little bit to get a server.

Shame shame...

Can someone provide a link for this? What league features are there?

It's surprising to hear Sega doing so many features for PS2 online because it seemed last year that few people played NFL2k3 on the PS2 while a lot of people on OS played on XBL.

I don't know if MS is stopping Sega from doing certain features. I remember Midway said that the online tournaments they wanted to do was easier on the PS2 and that's why they're online only on the PS2 this year.

Maybe Sega can still put the online capability in the XBOX version and unlock it via a patch....(just like a new level or map i.e. Mechassault)
I'm sure that the feature has been tested with XBL.
It is all a matter of negotiating terms with MS.

The current version of Xbox Live really isn't flexible enough for game-specific features like online leagues...if it doesn't fit into the standard Live format and interface, you are out of luck. That's why XSN is planned, but unfortunately that will only be for Microsoft's games. Developers would have more freedom if they didn't have to work within the confines of a standard online component, although of course Xbox Live in its current state has its advantages.
