radar detectors

Anyone have one? I don't speed often, but when I go home from college I drive on a wide open road that you might pass one person on and there is occasionally a hidden cop. I'm not the type to go 90 on a busy highway or drive unsafe or else I'd have one already. Looking to spend $100 or less if that's even possible.

Re: radar detectors

If you're gonna buy one, invest in a Valentine One. They are expensive though ($400)

That or the Escort 9500. I've had one of the sub-$200 as well as several friends that have, and honestly, they are a waste of money. The range on them was quite poor, and I would usually see the cop before the detector would see him.

Do these all protect from radar from airplanes, as commonly used in Florida?

Re: radar detectors

The way they change things these days, It's hard to get a good one without paying a lot of money for it. I've had a few, but after a short time of owning each, they pretty much become obsolete & the few I've had wouldn't even pick up Troopers, which are the main concern.

County doesn't run with radards, only the City and State here.

It should pick up any kind of radar. I was reading reviews for one of the $500 ones and one guy said it picked up the radar from an automatic door at a grocery story.

Re: radar detectors

Just make sure it is legal where you live at or traveling through. In some places it is illegal to have it and they don't care if you just driving through or not, you will still get a fine for having it in their city limits.

I found that out the hard way 2 years ago, I forgot what city I was driving through, but it was some where in the midwest. But that was a $300 fine.
