Horror/Sci-Fi movies you must see.

RENAMING THREAD TO
*HORROR/SCI-FI*

Recently my friend told me he hadn't seen many of the best horror movies because he hated Jason & Freddy movies and it pushed him away from watching anything else. I completely agree with him though, I hate serial killer movies, I find the plot simple and boring ie. Hills have eyes, Jason, Freddy, Halloween.

Anyways I downloaded a ton of my favorite movies and after watching them all he loved them all so I felt I'd name my favorites (some you may have never heard of) that are must see's (in my opinion).

Also I'm looking for movies I haven't seen before so throw down your favorites.

- Alien (1979)

- Aliens (1986)

- The Thing (1982)
I still haven't found a movie that compares to this ones awesomeness.

- The Fog (1980)
The 2005 remake is utter crap.
Stick to the original by John Carpenter.

- The Mist (2007)
Amazing movie with a memorable ending.

- CUBE (1997)
This movie I rave to everyone about, great story with good actors and very intense.
Stars David Hewlett (Rodney McKay) from Stargate Atlantis & Nicole de Boer.

- Splinter (2008)
This movie went completely under the radar but completely surprised me, its an amazing creature movie.

- Feast (2005)
This movie is so gory its somewhat disgusting, but so fun to watch. B-movie throwback goodness.
Just dont watch the sequel, its utter crap lol.

- From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino. Need I say more?
One of the most fun vampire movies you will ever see.

- Dreamcatcher (2003)
This movie isn't for everyone, an alien suspense movie with Jason lee by Stephen King.
It took me 2 watches to fully understand the movie but its worth seeing.

- Donnie Darko (2001)
Less of a horror, more of a psychological movie.
I'm adding it to my list because the movie is pure brilliance.

- House on Haunted Hill (1999)
When I first saw this movie, it was one of the only movie's to ever give me a chill.
The atmosphere of the movie is excellent even if the ending was kind of a let down.

- 30 Days Of Night (2007)

- The Evil Dead (1981)
This Indy movie with a 300,000 budget became a cult classic making Bruce Campbell famous.
It was also one of the first works of Sam Raimi (Spiderman)

- The Evil Dead 2 (1987)
Some say this is more of a remake of the original than a sequel with a bigger budget but its doesn't mean you shouldn't watch both movies.
Over the top acting making the movie both scary and absolutely hilarious at the same time. I haven't seen anyone else ever pull of that genre at the same time.

- Army Of Darkness (1992)
The third Evil Dead movie, less of horror and more of a comedy.
The graveyard skeleton scene makes me laugh every time.

Re: Horror movies you must see.

Dreamcatcher was a very very bad movie. It is not for anyone.

Evil Dead movies are also highly overrated.

I thought it was absolute rubbish aside from Donnie Wahlberg, who was exceptional in his role. Also, some of these movies aren't exactly horror films unless you want to classify horror, sci-fi, and suspense together.

Re: Horror movies you must see.

Good list, save for Dreamcatcher. Starts out great and ends stupidly imo. Loved the original The Thing as well. Just has that 50's scifi feel and the bantering that goes on between the cast members is great.

I did say Dreamcatcher WASNT for everybody.

Although this is my own personal list of preference.

CUBE though, find it and watch it if you haven't.

Maybe I should have made the title Horror/Sci-Fi

Re: Horror movies you must see.

Army of Darkness is one of the greatest movies ever made. I also love the graveyard scene, and the skeletons in general.

I'd like to add 28 Days Later and to a lesser extent 28 Weeks Later to this list. Days Later is one of my favourite "zombie" movies to date.
