No Superbad or Friday means a no go for me. Animal House only at #25 was a head scratcher too.

I don't have a problem with any of the movies other than Ghostbusters. Its a good movie, but not the greatest comedy of all time by a long shot.

Personally, my top 5 would probably go like this (in no order)

Spinal Tap
The Princess Bride
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Young Frankenstein
O Brother Where Art Thou

Having Animal House at 25 is just a bad way to start. Just makes you say "um, what?"

Easily could have been in the Top 5.

Absolutely. They both belong in the top five for sure. At least they got Airplane! right though.

Yeah the #25 and #1 films were headscratchers. Both great comedies, but it's alsmost like you could have flipped the 2 and it would have made more sense.

Re: IGN's Top 25 Greatest Comedies of All Time....

I think the list is pretty solid, even though only 8 of the films would be in my personal top 25. I would argue that reaching a consensus on what make a great comedy is harder then reaching a consensus on greatness in any other film genre.

Take for example the feeling here concerning Animal House and Caddyshack. I'm old enough to remember when they were first released in the theater, and while they are Iconic films to be sure, I wouldn't put either in my top 25. Ghostbusters wouldn't be on my list either. Groundhog Day and Beverly Hill Cop are both in my top 15 though. A film that is almost universally hated by most people, The Golden Child, is in my Top 5. Go figure.

I do love reading other people's list though, just to get a sense of how their mind tracks.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Super Trooper's has a great 10-15 minute beginning, the rest is average or just below. Ground Hog Day is great.

IMO, Ground Hog Day is a good movie but, is it really that funny? Honestly, I don't remember a single LOL moment in GHD and I remember plenty in Super Troopers...
