Saw it with the gf last week. It's funny; not as funny as some of his previous stand-ups but it's entertaining. Didn't find the content outside of the in-concert stuff to be all that funny myself

Pacific Rim: Saw last night in IMAX/3D - great experience, incredible visuals. Movie deserves to do WAY better business at the domestic box office. All the principle actors were great, particularly Idris Ilba and [whatever the lead guy's name is]. Some of the comic relief stuff with the scientists falls flat but otherwise a very enjoyable movie. Glad I went the extra mile to see in IMAX/3D.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith: Was on one of the pay channels yesterday; Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Not sure why this movie got such mixed reviews; I absolutely love it. The chemistry between Jolie and Pitt is incredible, and I love how the movie intertwines making a relationship work/marriage with the story of two assassins working for opposing companies that end up having to try to kill each other. Brad Pitt has his Ocean's Eleven cool in full effect in the movie; Angelina is a really sexy/believable action star (although she's still pretty skinny for my tastes). Little things like her putting up new drapes and him not really caring, the banter that occurs after they finally have the big fight with each other, etc. make the movie super-enjoyable to me. I've never been married but have gone through that whole cycle in relationships

42 - Good not great. Some real cheesy parts, but they were to be expected. Ford did an incredible job. Worth a watch, but no great rush.

The Woman in Black - Somewhere between moderately okay to bad. I wasn't fully paying attention which probably hurt some of the good "scares" that I'm sure were in there somewhere. I missed them all. Strange movie, with what seemed like a bad ending. Don't think it was good enough for me to even give it a second chance to see what I missed unless someone else wants to watch it one day.

Dead Man Down. Much better than I expected. Good intrigue, twists and action with a bit of a love story for the ladies.

Saw "42"

Wow, great movie! So happy that the times have changed since then.
Didn't realize it until after the movie that Pat Tillman also wore #42 at ASU.
I can not think of two better guys to have wore a sports uniform.

They Shoot Horses,Don't They?

What a great and oddly mesmerizing movie this was. Can't say I've seen every movie from 1969 but I'm pretty sure this got snubbed at the Oscars. 9 nominations without one for best picture (the heck is Z and Anne of the Thousand Days?) and it only won one of the nine. Excellent ending. This is how you acomplish something intresting and out of the ordinary without undermining the entire rest of the plot up to that point making everything else useless. Though it is of course well past the spoiler zone this one deserves to not be spoiled.

This is the one about the dance marathon, correct? Always been intrigued by it. Jane Fonda was all kinds of tasty back then.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Only God Forgives - I'm on the fence about this one really. The Gosling and Refn duo was obviously what led me onto this after Drive, but honestly I found Gosling's scenes to be pretty worthless. Kirstin Scott Thomas was amazing and Police Chief Chang was just a merciless, badass of a rogue cop. There's a story here, amazing visuals, tangible tone and atmosphere, but the characters are pretty flat. A good comparison for those familiar with Refn would be saying this is like Drive and Bronson meeting inside a blender; at times it felt like a horror movie holding hands with a criminal underworld, crime-drama movie.

As for the violence and other things I have to say that's a lot of smoke for a such a small fire. The violence is in line with Drive and manages to be effective as it builds up over the course of the movie. Some of the other things are certainly messed up and weird (see all sees involving mother and son), but its within the confines of Julian's character so its not exactly coming out of left field for the film.

I'm not sure I need to see it again for awhile; a feeling I had after watching Bronson. I feel Bronson is a better film overall since its weighted by a delightfully hammy and psychotically flashy performance by Tom Hardy. Only God Forgives uses a lot of Bronson's visual cues and state of mind melding scenes, but lacks a weighted performance (outside of Kirstin Scott Thomas' handful of scenes) to truly latch onto and give it any kind of charm or charisma. Overall it felt like watching two underdeveloped mad men circle each other until the end finally drew upon its hour.

The Apparition

It was on one of the movie channels, and I was too lazy to change the channel. Ashley Greene was nice to look at. That's the best thing I can say about it.
