I love this series, but the name change makes me cringe...

For the first time in an age I am seriously considering switching to PES (and PS4) for 2020.* EA are a mountain of broken promises, their Career Mode has been overlooked year after year apart from superficial (graphical) improvements.

I do wonder if its a phased approach to dropping the PES name and perhaps going with eFootball instead. Whilst recognizable the PES label is always associated with being the inferior game (amongst the general gaming population at least), and perhaps they want to move away from 'Soccer' to 'Football' in their name.

Awesome! I'm excited to try out the new edition. I haven't played PES in 6 or 7 years but the name change has me intrigued for whatever reason.

I want to be excited about this but the last couple of years have been a little underwhelming, even with some notable improvements having been made. For me the most crucial upgrades would be:

1) Strategy- Either pay someone to continually update team tactics, or allow the option for us to apply Live Updates without applying the tactics. The option file makers have essentially stopped editing this part of the game, because it takes a lot of time and effort, and who wants all that work erased every time they force an update on us? This would be huge, neither footy game currently offers any real diversity in play styles, in terms of the AI.

2) Dribbling- This needs to be deeper and more responsive, and they have to get rid of that stuck in the mud feeling you get when trying to explode into a sprint with the faster players. I think this is done to keep the game from becoming a track meet, but it just doesn't feel right when you have Lacazette on the wing and defenders are able to close in on you from behind so easily.

3) Defensive AI - There's way too much space in the game, there has been for years. I shouldn't be able to just casually dribble the ball upfield while defenders back pedal into the penalty box.

PES has done so many things right in recent years, I don't want to sound like I hate the game because I really don't. It's just frustrating to see game breakers like this go ignored year in and year out. Let's do this, Konami!

I agree but I am not a fan of the name PES either. Always makes me think of PEZ candy.

Why can't they just call it Winning Eleven over here like they do in Japan?

The inclusion of Edit Mode in the demo is actually very interesting. Since the content carries over to the final release, this means that creators can get a huge headstart and have their option files ready for release day. No more "I bought the game on release day but I'm waiting a month for City and Chelsea to show up," at least in theory.
