For this gameplay mod, we (@Matt10 & @reaper31) wanted to get PES 2021 to bring attention to the less beautiful parts of the game. Like 50/50 challenges, an aggressive CDM, keepers coming off their lines and passes that aren't always accurate. We needed fouls, plenty of physicality and smart passing moments. The importance of keeping the midfield tight was a real key for this combo, and credit has to go to Reaper for diving in and modifying the dt18 file until we saw what positioning looked most realistic. He also modified an already brilliant ball physics element by incas36, which elevates the nature of the ball being a separate entity from the players.
Since we have multiple files, here is a brief breakdown in how each file and creator's product have shaped this gameplay combo:
- DefinitiveGameplay, it brings the long balls to be less accurate, more fouls because player physics are weaker in balance;
- from there it was about getting the pass accuracies lessened and more realistic, so the good work of OldBastard (based on Heels approach I believe), accomplishes that and improves some positioning with midfielders' back to goal at times
- DT18, where Reaper modified the file, used incas ball physics 17 to combine with Holland's GK "1" (active gk 1v1s, etc) values, along with the most crucial value of narrowing the base width positioning throughout the banks.
- Soccer Game from Holland allows more logic and teamwork to happen rather than a long ball team just send long balls constantly - they still do it, but there's some footy IQ at least to not be the only route.
- AITweaks to help defensive pressure initially, but also Holland's Soccer Game quickly assigns marks relative to the ball.
We both tested this with FUMA and regular controls and the game is very enjoyable and in some way more challenging then ever. It should be noted that this is only for PES 21 and not for those using FL25.exe. We will not be creating a compatible exe for FL25.
