Your opinions on Be a Pro

Hey everyone, looking to get some BAP enthusiasts to share their opinions on Be a Pro in the incoming NHL 16.

Quick background, I love sports games and mostly I love modes where you are the star, gives infinite amount of replayability.

As you can guess, I was very disappointed last year with the poor mode EA gave us.

But this year, I'm intrigued to say the least. I love the fact you'll get to shape your character by playing, and by simming, as the videos showed us. Just got 2 concerns for this year :

1- The sim a shift looks like very different from the original Action Tracker in 13 and 14, if we rely on the trailers, it's really just the time and score and SOGs changing until your next shift.

2- ''Around the league''. I love seeing who is injured, traded and such, and last year you had to go through the activity feed, which was limited in my opinion, and it seems to be a very similar interface in NHL 16 from what we've seen from trailers.

Anyway, I'm still happy that they revamped the coach's statements, unlike the last 3-4 years, and I believe the authentic arenas and general efforts put to improve the experience while playing will help immersion in this game mode.

Really looking forward to see more gameplay, and if we don't until September 10th (ea access), well can't wait to try this mode.

What do you guys think? Would love to get some opinions!

This the only mode I play so I'm really excited that it's back in as it always should have been.

My opinion? This mode is a farce. If they would do it the justice it deserves and make it even 50% as in depth as NBA 2k it would be the only thing I played year round. As it is? I might try it for a novelty if I get bored of GM, before quickly abandoning it for the 7th or so year in a row because it's shallow, repetitive, uninteresting, and the AI sucks. I don't even like basketball. I'd struggle to name 10 active NBA players. I loved 2k's career mode. I only bought the game because of its career mode. Hockey, on the other hand, is the only sport I follow religiously and I still can't enjoy its career mode. BAP sucks.

With what I have seen so far in previews, they have upgraded BAP enough to get me interested again. NHL15, and in particular it's BAP mode, was an abortion of a game. NHL16 is looking quite promising. Mind you I only play Goalie so simming shifts was never a concern for me and as far as depth goes it seems they have added a few small touches to make it at least slightly more interesting.

Re: Your opinions on Be a Pro

In theory, this is a mode I should love and really enjoy playing, but honestly, I always get bored of it within the span of a week. It's just not immersive enough for me.

Introducing the off the ice scenarios and how your decisions affect status, player standing etc. would have been a nice step if it wasn't implemented in such a shallow way.

The last time I had fun with a mode like this was before Be A Pro where I would create my friends and dump us all on the Islanders and play seasons from there. I don't have time and EA no longer allows the ability to really do that anymore, but in my 20s that was a blast!

I play the hell out of 2ks my career mode but it hasn't changed all that much since 2k12

Re: Your opinions on Be a Pro

I'm looking forward to giving a look again this year. Sim the the next shift being back makes this mode at least playable, I hear the coach feedback is expanded somewhat, and of course rosters are up to date. Doubt it will be too impressive; the bar for career mode is quite high, and EA isn't there yet.
