Guess the discount date

Given that multiplayer online modes are missing, I am proposing we play our own NHL 15 multiplayer online game called guess the discount date. By this I mean at what point in time do you guess we will see a price drop on NHL 15 by EA in an attempt to generate sales (akin to NBA Live 14) for the holiday season.

My guess is October 14.

It'll be a weekly deal at Best Buy for $39.99 in a month and a half.

Either way, I will have been playing it for a month and a half.

Re: Guess the discount date

I am not sure when major retailers will begin to discount this game or offer deals for it. I would guess probably around Black Friday to start.

But I am predicting this: I really feel that this game is not only lacking in terms of modes, but also is still heavily flawed in terms of gameplay mechanics and artificial intelligence. With that being said, I honestly predict that a good majority of the people that have purchased NHL 15 already will be "over" it by Halloween.

I am speaking about even the people that are raving about it now and saying how great a game of hockey it plays. They will be bored or disgruntled with the game and these forums will be a ghost town less than one month into the real NHL season. You can mark my words on that if you so choose.

And I say this not to be condescending, flame, or start wars, but this game is all around not a good game. I cannot tell someone how they should feel or what their opinions can be for it, but in a vacuum of "does this video game represent real hockey in the truest form?", the answer is far from "yes".

And once the luster of play now wears off and the legacy issues that have plagued this series for the past half of a decade, or more, creep back up and make themselves prevalent you will see people just fade away.

More bugs than fixes are about to be discovered. A potentially game breaking issue exists for online that I already know about, and if that makes it way around then it is even more crippling of a game that is light on depth to begin with.

After a month of playing the same style of gameplay night in and night out and realizing that there is not much help coming with the patches, and an even greater lack of community PR by EA, this game will be just about buried on many people's shelves.

The focus will shift to NHL 16 by holiday season and that prospect doesn't look much brighter at this time. But, I think if you wait until the holidays to purchase NHL 15 you should be able to snag it from somewhere for about $30 new or under $25 used.

That is what I see happening when the rose colored glasses fade on the gameplay of a game built on a flawed system of fundamental gameplay and a bare-boned feature set to compliment it.

I'm going to save that, bigwill33.

I see myself playing this all the way to the actual Stanley Cup Playoffs.

I hope that you do and I honestly hope that I am wrong. I would like to play a hockey game this year as it is 75% of my yearly gaming.

But I want to point out other factors that people will say caused them to stop playing so much will include, they didn't have time to play, there were other new games released that took precedent, and other things such as that.

My prediction though is that somewhere soon everyone trying to overlook what is not in the game will run into monotonous gameplay and bugs that nobody could have foreseen in the very modes that they convinced themselves they would be fine playing all year.

When people start getting into issues with the GM mode where they can't sim past a certain date for some reason, or shoddy CPU roster management, missing players, lack of or broken progression, and other issues that have not only been in recent NHL games but will most likely be even worse in this rushed version... well it will just be a silent death for NHL 15.

Take all of that and wait for these patches that everyone is looking forward to and when people realize there isn't much to them (i.e. OTP being not what everyone thinks of when playing past OTP modes) and then the rest of the people that have been not been in the know will be disheartened as to what they have left to do.

Trust me, I am someone that usually plays NHL from release date to the next release date. I am very disappointed that I have no game to play. But from playing the game already and seeing firsthand what is in it I know that I would just be wasting my time and money right now. I have not cared for the past few versions of NHL at all, but I would be willing to bet that I have more games played on it each year than probably any one else here at OS. That is not me bragging, that is my pointing out that if someone like me can step away from this product then others that are far less enthused by hockey in general will be doing the same, and most likely very soon.

Re: Guess the discount date

I'm going to go with Black Friday, or the week of Thanksgiving. Since they are giving most of us what we want by end of October (or so they say), there is no reason to discount it before then, and then by that time, they will have a burst in revenue from the folks that didn't buy it for specific reasons in relation to missing content.
