Scouting

So how do you decide where to scout and for how long? Do you
go by what will give you points in the GM Tracker (BE A GM mode) or
do you have a different way?

I can't find any guides or even helpful hints about how to get the most out
of scouting so that I don't draft a bust.

So how do YOU do it? Any tips?

For me, I draft out of areas that I know are hockey hot beds. often, I have found it best to scout the OHL and the Swedish league. Those produce the most prospects, so far as I have found!

Re: Scouting

In any given season of BEAGM, I go through a round of scouting just about everywhere; 1-2 weeks in each league, scouting each type of player. For example, 1-2 weeks scouting Forwards in the WHL, then 1-2 weeks scouting defensemen, then 1-2 weeks scouting goalies. I skip the places with no prospects. Then I review the prospects and any I want further information on, I scout further. That usually fills the season.

Hope that helps.

Re: Scouting

I tend to give it 2-3 weeks in anywhere that has a grouping of top talents. Mainly Canada, America, Sweden. I'll tend to look for players that I have a need for rather than look at everyone.

Tbh I find scouting pretty hit and miss. More often than not my scout comes back and says "I've finished that trip to the DEL" when I sent him off to the OHL in Canada, and nowhere near Germany.

It also frustrates me that you can't tell a scout to go look at specific players. Too many times I've got to the end of the season, and despite sending my scout to a league with a few top 5 players multiple times, he only ever made the effort to look at those studs once. Why??

Re: Scouting

My first priority is hitting things in my GM Checklist to earn points.

Then if no points are to be had, I go heavy on the 3 Canadian leagues forwards. 3 week trips. WHL - OHL - QMJHL and repeat.

This may change once my scout gets better (halfway thru Year 1, needless to say my scout isn't great right now!)
