I really hope the next gen AI is better

I really hope the next gen AI is better because the AI in NHL 14 is horrid.

I am sicking of my CPU controlled teammates act like idiots. There will be a delayed icing where my CPU teammate will be skating toward the puck then he will just for some reason skate away from it.

The same goes for when I ice the puck and have CPU controlled near it, they just act like the puck is not even there.

Come to think about it, i dont think I have ever gotten an icing call where it was not me who touched the puck.

More bone head AI is if I get beat by the computer and my teammate is back instead of trying to get the puck or check the player he again just skates away from the opp who has the puck.

If they make your teammate ai capable then it becomes too easy. The game is too easy as it is. If they are gonna make competent ai, it better be for the Cpu side first. I can atone for my poor teammates.

The icing issue was around last year as well. Player would skate towards it, and then skate away. This was brought up to EA, but apparently they didn't "listen" like they said they did.

I disagree. By making the user AI better it would also make the CPU AI better because in theory since the CPU is controlling them they should play the same way right?

Also, the game would be a lot more competitive if the AI didnt let in so many cheese goals.

it seems this year the top shelf goals go in about 75% of the time.

They also need to fix the CPU force fields, its very annoying when you go to check someone with the puck in open ice and its like the CPU has a force field and even when you are controlling the skater the player still shys away from the person with the puck

Also the CPU needs to shoot way more. They just always seem to take the hight % shots and it gets boring because they will take like 14 shots a game but score on 4 of them.

Also if the CPU would hit more it may make the game more challenging I always groan when i see I out hit the CPU in a game 25-6

In theory, yes, but we are talking Ea here, not theory. If the Ai was programmed equally you wouldn't see half the problems you're complaining of. Truth is, the human team is crippled in order to make the game more challenging. Which is why several sliders have to be adjusted to equal things out a bit. Sliders like goalie reaction because the human team goalie gives up the most ridiculous goals. The Acceleration slider because the cpu seems to have endless boost that gives it an extra step. I don't have issues with the hitting, because with the aggression slider and cpu difficulty sliders high, I see around 15-20 a game from the cpu. As for the Cpu shooting, that's an issue because it only looks for shots from the point or slot. If you defend those well, it's screwed.

that is my point though, if they program the AI of both the player and CPU evenly it would be a perfect game.

They do need to get rid of the cheap goal where the CPU will score when ever it wants to. I was playing earlier and one of the CPU players skate by three of my players and I knew once he beat the 3rd he was going to get a goal and sure enough he score 5 hole on a shot the goalie should have had.

I just hope with the better RAM the next gen game can have way better AI.

I wish we could just get a real game of hockey and they need to stop catering to the online fans who like arcade hockey.

I would much rather see a bunch of 2-1 games than 6-5. Playing 6 minute periods there is no way there should be 8-10 goals on average.

Re: I really hope the next gen AI is better

You're right with 6 minute periods, there should only be one or two goals if you truly want realism. The problem with programming the AI as equal to the human is that it is impossible. The AI will never measure up to human creativity, adaptivity, or anything. The sliders are there to curb the CPU boosts...and given the right slider set...yes, they do work. Quite well, actually.
