Tips for playing online!

Mkaaaay...
In my GM Connected league, I'm sooo frustrated with dudes dipsy-doodling around me, and poke checking my every move. They also get to every puck faster and get ridiculous breakaways off of faceoffs.

Give me some tips, before I go drop kicking puppies!

Thx

Don't go for bodychecks every time and they won't be able to dipsy doodle around you. Try and stay inbetween their forehand and the net, don't commit easily to guys skating in circles, hold your lane.

Re: Tips for playing online!

If you hold down RT on defense it gives you control of the last player back on D.
Constantly switch players on D. Like Robbie said play the forehand. They are always going to swerve to the backhand side to set up a forehand shot. Anticipate the swerve back to te forehand and light them up!

A lot of guys will swerve to the middle of the ice when they receive a breakout pass. Notice this. Notice all of the tendencies. Some guys are just magicians with te sticks but 90% will follow obvious tendencies once you start to watch for them.

I like to use the last man back RT switching a lot.

I mainly play online vs, which essentially should be the same concept as a human GM connected league.

My suggestion is switch player as LITTLE as possible. Bring your forwards back into your D zone and let the CPU keep your Dmen in position (not that the AI is that great, in fact its mostly bad). I just find when I constantly switch player I pull guys out of position and will usually lose playing that way. If you're going to control your defense manually, try not to switch and do your best to stay in lanes and take away angles.

Playing EASHL or an online team play games can really help discipline yourself to not going crazy with RT, thus keeping players in position. The new skating engine really affects your initial moves so its very easy to switch player and really put yourself in a bad spot.

I'd suggest using conservative strategies and moving the forecheck slider over towards favoring the neutral zone. When you use aggressive strategies, you are providing holes for them to skate through.

So use a passive forecheck and a 1-3-1 or 1-4 defensive formation. The real benefit is that these guys are going aggressive as all get out, so you will still get be able to get u the ice with numbers, even using a conservative breakout.

I had some tool get so frustrated that he started taking his goalie out to get more numbers. He would spend time in his own end, trying to bait me into chasing him down.

I also agree that switching guys on D should be done as little as possible. I try to keep control of a D-man by the net, then occasionally taking a foward to go after a point man if I think they are vulnerable. I tend to stick with Tight Point and Contain Puck on defense. If they are crashing the net, I will switch back to collapsing.
