you are shooting from wide angles, shooting weak shots (backhands etc.)

try : slapshots or wristshots from the slot, point shots w/ traffic, deking the goalie, cross-crease/one-timers (only when the opportunity is there)

Capitals, Blackhawks, Flyers are three very good teams.

Just stick with it and keep practicing, you will get better. This game is amazing but there is definitely a learning curve.

Here are the settings I use when playing on-line with the Capitals. Honestly, it is whatever you feel comfortable and I often switch during the game.

Defense- Collapsing (Helps protect the middle of the ice)
Pressure- Full Pressure
Forecheck- 2-1-2 (High)

Offense- I use "crash the net", or "overload" on most my lines
Breakout- Full out rush (Will make players immediately rush up the ice when you get possesion of the puck)

Hope this helps...

the problem is I never played this before so I don't know what all the settings mean, and the manual is worthless. What camera angle do you use?

Re: I took 43 shots in online game....

Just shoot from anywhere!
I don't tend to take a lot of shots, I like to move the puck and get into position for legit scoring chances, but the goalie's seem unreal under those conditions. Where aren't they good? Odd bad angle shots! I can't tell you how many times my goalie has let in a shot from a position that I would NEVER shoot from. It's garbage!

I hate to waste position by taking crap shots, like I see going in, but maybe that's what I need to start doing.

Re: I took 43 shots in online game....

The fact that you take that many shots in a game set with 5 minute periods (the default for online play) leads me to believe you must have pretty much crossed into the offensive zone and taken a shot almost immediately. Those are probably very low % shots you're taking. You have to work in the zone to get good quality scoring chances and that can take a little time, which results in much fewer shots on goal, but since they're better scoring chances, they have a better chance of landing in the back of the net.

Go into practice mode and do some 5 on 0 and 5 on 5 play in the offensive zone and practice moving the puck around, looking for the best shot.
