Which game has best franchise mode?

Ok so I know this is a bit late being as NHL 11 and NHL2k11 are both coming out soon, but I am looking to pick up either NHL 10 or NHL 2k10 on the cheap I like to play offline franchise and I like to play the games, not sim them. So now almost a year later after updates and sliders which of these two games would be best for me.

My concern with NHL 10 is the freezing issue I have read about. Does it still freeze in Be a GM now after all the patches (for PS3)

My concern with NHL 2k10 is with the game play. Do the sliders allow me to have a solid game? I don't really care about the other leagues or accurate players in franchise so that doesn't kill 2k for me. However I do care about player progression.

I appreciate the input and help figuring out which of these two to get!!

Re: Which game has best franchise mode?

I cannot comment on 2k10 but I can say for that for NHL 10 on the PS3 I have never had a freeze and I have virtually played it every day since the day it was released. I am currently in season 2019-20...I only play games from the trade deadline to the end of playoffs...

I would say NHL 10 if you want to play the games....it wasn't sports game of the year for nothing....BEAGM isn't without its problems but its by far the best its ever been..

NHL 2K10 has the better franchise mode (albeit without the AHL aspects) but NHL10 has the better game play according to most. I would honestly just wait to see what NHL11 is gonna be like though.

hey Paddy thanks for the reply....what makes 2k's franchise better? I am looking at picking up on e of these for the bargain price. If I get into hockey games I may look at getting the new one down the line.

Re: Which game has best franchise mode?

Well it's just my opinion but I ended up playing it more than NHL10. I previously had NHL09 which was good, and before that NHL04 which till this day features more extras than anything since, but I digress.

Just off the top of my head these are some stuff you'll find;

- UFA & RFA contract types (plus EL although it's not designated as such)
- Settings for simulated game length: i.e. 20 mins = 5-6 players break 100pts. 19 mins = 2-3 players break 100 points etc.
- Reasonable salary expectations
- Edit every player name/attributes during season
- Slider for almost everything (Injurys as well)
- Draft Classes
- 2K Share - Rosters/Sliders/Draft Classes to download
- Loads of stats, plus player career stats
-> Customizeable season length in 2k (can't believe I forgot that)
-> Play all games, any team, even playoff.

Major downside is that NHL clubs get a max of 23 players, AHL gets 27 (with position breakdowns as well) so squad numbers is limited.

Overall I think it's a nice title that lacks polish. A word of warning if you're thinking of getting it though is to at least rent, download a slider set and see how it plays. The lack of stick control that you get with EA takes an adjustment and you will be annoyed at times with a certain lack of player response (down to animations). If you can find it cheap it's worth a punt though.

Re: Which game has best franchise mode?

If NHL 11 hashes out all of the bugs in it's franchise, then it will have one of the best franchise modes in sports games, along with The Show. The bugs I'm talking about of coarse is the roster management AI, FA AI, ect, ect. So if you can look passed all the bugs then NHL's franchise mode is supperior.
