I loathe "it's my opinion... I can say whatever I want" discussions, so all I'll say is this. It only becomes an issue when one side of a discussion feels the need to paint the other in a negative light or pushes their views as the only way to look at an issue.

On a related note... why is it that many think the celebrations will be so over-the-top?

It's probably from that IGN article, where the author mentions doing a "Superman slide" after scoring, and things kinda stemmed from there.

Oh I dont like them either, and I didnt like making it here... But much like I dont like that I cant walk into a bank and take as much money as I want... It doesnt mean that isnt still the case.

In fact that wasnt REALLY what I was getting at... What I meant was that if we didnt all have our own opinions, this board would be either 1) Empty or A News site and not a forum.

My point was more about how it's the opinions that drive this (and any other forum) site, and that shouldnt be forgotten... not at all saying it was.. just making a point.

Didn't he state that was the only celebration he did? So none of us know any of the other celebrations?

Radie... you lost me with that one.

Yeah that is where this started... but I wonder if things like the Spider and Flame and Graffiti equipment doesnt do it's share to foster that fear.

Maybe only a few will be "over-the-top" (the Superman slide being one of them), and the rest will be your routine fistpumps and so forth.

On big goals- a late tying goal, a game winner, etc. I'd love to see the ref rush towards the net and quickly chop his arm up and down to signal a goal.

What's *need* does it fulfill to "rub it in" your opponents face? People have gotten so comfortable with anonymity and rules/law that protect them - they've forgotten any sort of class.

It truly disgusts me to actually see that type of post.

This whole "don't like it, don't use it" quote is getting old. I won't use it, but it will take my joy away to see someone ride his stick around the ice after scoring a goal. How do I prevent a random goof from doing this? And don't say "stop him from scoring", that's a douche answer.

And before you reply that I can exact revenge by beating up his digital character - that's not really any type of retaliation. Again, anonymity. They can act like fools, send stupid fool emails and say idiotic fool things because they don't know who they're playing. They have no fear of any real repercussion for being a jerk.

Exactly. And while you see this as "fun", to me - seeing some jerk act like his stick is burning would take the fun out of *MY* experience.

This past year he had some doozies. If someone doesn't cut him down in the next two seasons, then this league has gone softer than an 80-year-old man's sex drive.

No one would have gotten away with that nonsense in the pre-lockout.
While I'm not a huge fan of super over the top celebrations of which we don't even know how many there actually are yet mind you. Bitching about it like its the end of the world is kind of lame. It's not going to hurt the other aspects of the game that are either tweakable to be more sim like or moving in the direction of more realism, a few over the top celebrations are not going to hurt the integrity of the sport I don't think.
