Help with Scoring?

I just picked up the game recently, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to scoring more often. I generally just play against friends online, and it seems like if I even get 2 goals its a miracle. Half of my games are going into overtime 0-0 or 1-1, and its starting to really get frustrating.

I've tried a few different things, when I first started I would try to pass the puck around a lot and try to find openings, I would dominate the puck but have very few shots on goal, and pretty much every game I would score 2 goals. The past few days I've been working on the theory of deflections/rebounds, and just overwhelming the goalie, but honestly it doesn't seem to be working even though I feel like I'm getting a lot of quality shots on goal.

Just looking for any suggestions you guys might have!

Re: Help with Scoring?

If you want to continue your shooting/deflections/rebounds. Set your breakout to full attack and put all your lines if you want to Crash The Net that should help and for Power Play put it at Shooting. Hope this helps

Re: Help with Scoring?

Well...

sounds like you have the right idea though, and thats the best thing.

Its possible you are just on a cold streak, but make sure you are using screens, getting the puck deep and cycling. If you're new to hockey just watch some and you'll see how its done.

Here is a go-to move in real life and in the game, particularly with star players...

Say I'm coming down the left wing with a right-handed shooter on the rush...

cut to the middle to the slot (the space between the circles) and aim high to the right with a wrister...full wind up and drag on the wrister...not a slap shot.

or pass to the guy on the other side of the net...or drop it back to the d.

Never be afraid to try new things also...feels better when they end up in the net!!!

Re: Help with Scoring?

I only purchased this game about 2 or 3 months ago, and hadn't played any NHL games in a long time, probably since 00'. So I had quite a few posts on here and got some great tips.

The tip that helped me the most, by far? Turn on auto aim. If you don't completely understand hockey, auto aim is your friend. I had it on manual aim for about my first 20 games, and constantly had games, like you, where I'd score 0 goals through 3 periods, or 1-1, and in the off chance I scored 2 goals, it was by miracle. Unfortunately, it's not a permanent option. Meaning before each game, when you're at the screen right after the 'team select' screen. You have to go to 'gameplay options' before EVERY game, and on the first or second page you'll see 'home line changes, home shooting, away line changes, away shooting' and let's say you're home. it'll ALWAYS be on manual shooting by default, so move that to auto.

Now some people, myself included, at first anyway. Feel as though it's kinda cheating and not fair. But the reality is you're simply rewarded for taking good shots. If you take a slap shot while the goalie is sprawled or you beat him with a one timer or a deke or whatever the case. Your shot, which most would typically screw up on, just has a better chance of going in and being accurate. You can still take 50 shots and only score once or twice, it happens. So don't think with auto aim on you'll score 20 times on 22 shots. Because it's not even close to that. But it is completely worth trying and doing. I may go back to manual shooting at some point, when I understand the game a little better. But that's the tip that has helped me more than anything else.

You seem like you're doing all the right things, cycling, passing, trying to set deflections and rebounds. With auto aim on, you'll finally be rewarded for those things.

Hope this helps.

Re: Help with Scoring?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can turn on auto-aim, even in unranked games. That is a good suggestion for offline, but I play 90% of my games online.

Re: Help with Scoring?

just aim where the goalie isn't

it's not rocket science

pass the puck to put the goalie in a bad spot. passing cross crease is killer
