Be a GM Drafting Help

I can never seem to draft a good player even with all the scouting I do. I guess I just don't understand what to do really. Can somebody share their draft strategies/ help out?

I'd be very interested too, to read other peoples ideas and suggestions about drafting. I'm getting fairly close to my first off season...and I feel kinda in the dark as to what to really be looking for.

From my experience, all the scouting and stuff is really useless unless you have a Level 5 scouting staff. Actually, it seems to be the case for everything (player development, trade block, scouting etc.).

You have to have the higher level staff before you actually get any accurate information.

Another option, albeit a cheap one, is to save just before the draft and go through it to see who the good prospects are and just load your save file.

I always play the Prospects game (split down middle so i play for world for first half and NA for second half) it helps give you an idea on how fast a guy can skate, or how hard he can shoot things like that. As far as drafting a player with a Good rating well its kind of luck for me, i noticed that not always the top prospects have the highest overall ratings so i would also like to figure out a better way to tell their attributes

You can see the rating for the players on the Prospect teams.
Play the game, pause it & go to Players stats. Or you can check after the game if you want to play it.

You won't be able to see all individual ratings, but is gives you an idea of what you might draft.
This way you can get a 77 & not a 72 in the 1st round.

Re: Be a GM Drafting Help

A piece of advice is that you shouldn't expect the guys you draft to be NHL ready as soon as you draft them. Unless your picking in the top 5-10 then its usually best to have your prospects play in the minors and develop.

Also use the training menus so that you can assign your prospects to do certain training events that will improve their weak areas. I notice that a lot of rookies seem to have bad shots so if you assign them to do the shooting training then they should improve there depending on offensive potential and stuff like that.
