Hi...new guy here

I'm new here and have been enjoying reading the forum for the past few days. I haven't played an NHL game since 95 and my oh my have things changed. I picked up the game this weekend for my xbox and have been overwhelmed by the differences and all the new features/difficulty. I'm wondering if any of you pros would like to train up a newb on the ins and outs of the game as well as online leagues/be a pro/team play etc. I've got some skills from back in the day, but I'm just a rusty old man now. Any help (links to informative websites/training guides/etc will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ant

My first advice would be to not get drawn in by the alternate controller settings ("Classic" or "NHL 94"). Stick with the defaults. Here's an ok guide to start with: http://guides.ign.com/guides/14230950/

I'd also recommend getting the hang of the controls in practice mode, start 1-0 to get the skating, deking and shooting controls down, then go 2-0 to work on passing and one-timers.

If you have more specific questions down the road I'm sure you'll find plenty of people on these forums willing to offer some tips.

Couple questions. WHat's the deal with sliders. Is there something wrong with the default settings? Do you need to train your players in dynasty mode to make them better?
What does the AI learning slider do?

Thanks,

Ant

The sliders give you a (very limited) ability to tweak the gameplay if you don't like the defaults. If something in the game really bothers you and there's a slider for it you can see if nugding it one way or another improves things for you. You can also try some of the popular slider sets (there's a separate thread dedicated to that), e.g. mudtiger's.

AI learning allows you to turn off the AI ability to adapt to your play. For example if you are always taking point shots it will try to shut that down if AI learning is on. I like to leave it on because it forces me to adjust my play, but I can also use it to my advantage because getting the other team concerned with one type of attack can open up a different attack.

Yes, you can guide your player development in Dynasty (http://guides.ign.com/guides/14230950/page_10.html) but I think they will also just progress on their own along a default path if you do nothing.

You will find that if you lower the AI learning you will most likely score more goals....the AI will not adjust as easily to your way of playing the game.... I would put AI learning at 3 so you don't get too frustrated with the game...
