Under-Rated Players

I can't remember if another thread like this has been started or not so I'm just going to go ahead and write this new one up. Who are the under-rated players in NHL 09? fficeffice" />>>
>>
I'm sure everyone has their own gripe about a fan favourite for their team who isn't rated the way they should be. I am going to start off rather audaciously by saying that Alex Ovechkin IS under-rated in NHL 09. >>
>>
I was doing my own "grudge match" comparison between Crosby and Ovy and discovered a few glaring problems in their ratings (provided by IGN's ratings provided at the release of the game) First of all, Ovechkin's wrist shot is far deadlier than a 90 rating. The amount of times that Ovy scores off of an unscreened wrister from the circles should be evidence enough of a higher rating in real life. The fact that Ovy has the exact same wrist shot ratings as Dany Heatly is really nasty. Heatly has an amazing shot, but Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun (writers for ESPN) said it themselves "Right now there is no better sharpshooter in the NHL than Alex Ovechkin. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/preview2008/columns/story?id=3631769" For the record, sharpshooters shoot with power and accuracy, Dany Heatly and Ovechkin have the same accuracy and shot power ratings for wristers, that is garbage.>>
>>
Secondly, let’s talk about speed. Like I said earlier, I compared Ovy and Crosby's ratings head to head in NHL 09 to figure out why Crosby was rated two points higher than Ovechkin in game. I found that Crosby's speed is listed at 92 and Ovechkin's at 91. During the 2007 All-Star weekend, ESPN asked the players who were attending "Who is the fastest skater in the NHL?" Of course the resounding answer was Gaborik who actually won the speed competition, but interestingly enough more of a percentage of the players attending the game (these are the players who played in the All-Star game and can be considered the highest authority outside of actually numbers that could attest to the speed of players) chose Alexander Ovechkin over Sidney Crosby. An equal portion of the players chose Marian Hossa as well as Alexander Ovechkin (Hossa is rated at a 92 speed rating) which further leads a gamer to believe that Ovechkin is in fact under-rated. >>

>>
I would go on, but I am being forced out of this shop by my girlfriend. So please, continue this thread and let me and the rest of us NHL 09 gamers know who is under-rated so that maybe we as players could adjust stats to make a more realistic game.>>

Alexander Semin is pretty underrated. His deking and shooting are both better than Ovechkin's.

Brent Johnson is like a 76 overall but is actually the #1 goaltender. Like top 10 in the league so far this season, stats-wise.

Re: Under-Rated Players

For the Bruins:
Tim Thomas
Milan Lucic
Matt Hunwick

Another one that stood out was Erik Ersberg on LA. I believe he's rated a 60 something.

I'm sure there are others but I'm not currently looking at the game.

I was just coming to post about Tim Thomas being under rated. Whats actually odd to me about 09, and the same thing was true in 08, Thomas plays better than Fernandez, yet is usually rated lower. At least thats been the case in my Bruins dynasties so far the last couple retail builds. You would think after the great season Timmy had last year, and that he was adjusted past 80 in one of 08's roster updates, that he wouldn't be back rated as a 79 or 78 like he is currently in 09. He is that consistant, and really one of those guys that can keep a team in games night after night, honestly I think he's overall a better goalie than Manny is to be completely honest.

Re: Under-Rated Players

Well, the roster update bumped Thomas up to an 84. That's fair enough.

No love for Hunwick though. He's still a 70 despite the fact that he's got a +/- of 14 with 3 goals and 11 assists and that he's been playing on our 2nd defensive line for most of the season.

Lucic also didn't get any love which is kind a of joke. He still has 60 for his shot accuracies and his awareness is too low. The guy's been playing on the first line all season yet he has a lower overall rating than Kobasew, Nokelainen, Wheeler, Axelsson.
