Players locked into movement?

Does anybody else have a problem in which it seems you aren't in control of the player you're on? For example, I was playing today and rather than cutting inside on the wing, moving the left thumbstick had no effect and he just continued running straight ahead until the last second.

Not to mention defending is terrible, it seems as though you get locked into a single straight path and can do nothing but switch players to make it stop. I know it's not my controller, or my settings. Is it just a game flaw or bug?

Unfortunately, that's FIFA. It's been like that as long as I can remember, after a while half the fun ends up being when you both have to fight against that as well as win the match AND when you can predict outcomes before they happen based on certain cues. For example, sometimes you can see the passing play of the CPU going really well and you'll be there for an interception and BOOM you can't move as fast as usual or they won't let you pick the right player to make the tackle. 9/10 times when this happens, the CPU will march right up and score a junk goal. So frustrating but part of the experience for me at this point. It's like autocorrect: it makes me send accidental embarrassing messages but in the end, it's kinda funny that my grandma had to read it.
