Not sure if this has been answered already but here it goes. In career mode, how do you guys choose the captain? I usually use the real life captain, and use Wikipedia to find who the vice-captain is. But if for instance both of those players have retired, and the team doesn't have a player with the "Leader of Men" trait, how do you pick the captain? I've read that some people have established a team of only youth academy players. In cases like that where everyone is basically the same age how did you choose the captain?

How are your AI teammates on defense? Do you always have to switch control to the man nearest the ball to get him to defend properly, or will the AI do a decent job?

I usually choose my captain based on a couple of factors. 1) Length of time with the team. I tend to choose a player who has spent quite a few years in my starting lineup. It doesn't really matter but I like to do that.

2) Player rating. I like my captain who is one of the best players on my team and will spend most the time in the starting lineup. No need to pick a player who isn't always in.

Really that's how I choose, though I'm sure everyone does it different.

Can anyone provide me with some tips on how to become decent at this game? My friends and I have recently been playing '13, but all of us are really below average. Which is good because we can never find a game that we have equal footing on. I am decent at getting the ball centered, but it's just a crap shoot anytime I have the ball in the box. Even if it's a break away 1 on 1. So any good tips on how to make it look like we are competent soccer players? Corner kicks and free kicks would probably be huge if I could have a chance on those.

I'd suggest you try playing alone whenever you're not with your friends like start a career mode for example. Start at a low difficulty. Soon you'll find yourself destroying and humiliating the computer team so then it's time to move the difficulty higher. Repeat until you've hit world class or even legendary. You'll kick your friends butts cuz you'll be used to playing tough games.

Another thing, play to your strengths. If you're not really good with dribbling into the box and finishing, then don't do it! At least not until you've been playing alone and you've improved. In meantime just play to your strength which you said would be centering or crossing. Choose a formation + team that will emphasize your wingers.

How do you counter the defensive move where the defender grabs onto you? One of my friends have mastered it. I will be running and just be sucked into the defender behind me. I figured there is something that will make the defender completely whiff. Literally every time if his defender is faster my guy has no chance.

Also, when one on one with the goalie in a break-a-way, what is the most effective shot to try? What does a finesse shot trigger? Trying something other than just B(O) might help my scoring in the box as well.

If the defender is holding on to you and gaining, just pull the ball away from him. Like if he's gaining on you from the left side, just easily turn your player to the right side. This won't make you get past him but you'll retain the ball. Whenever a defender is doing that to me the ref usually calls a foul from them.

The finesse shot makes your player take the shot with the inside foot. If you have a top rated player or one with that specialty trait, it will add a curve to the ball. You can also try chipping it over the GK. I usually just take a power shot to the GK's near post. Works for me

I play offline, exhibition games, and have downloaded the roster updates. How do I get the updated rosters to show up when I play an exhibition match or games of the week? I looked and don't see a way to load the rosters so any help would be appreciated!!!!!

I have searched and not found an answer to my questions so sorry if I missed it.
