FIFA 12 Hands-On Preview - Small Changes, Gigantic Results

C&VG has posted their FIFA Soccer 12 hands-on preview.

Quote:
Precision dribbling works in tandem with the new defending system. You no longer hold x for overpowered, Hooverstyle spam tackles, but to jockey the attacker, moving closer or further away with the left stick, and stepping in to tackle when the time is right by pressing x (for a standing tackle), or b (for slide).

Timing and positioning is critical, and should liberate online play where 'pressure abuser' players used to play an unrealistic pressing game. It's also harder to exploit the 'second tackler' option, creating a far more realistic flow.
Platform: Xbox 360 / PS3

That quotes gives me hope for this game. However, hopefully there are more fouls called, as that will ultimately stop people from hacking away.

Still very little mention of AI improvements so far in all the previews I have read. If they put forth even the slightest bit of effort into having the AI play more realistically, they would have a giant on their hands, but until then FIFA will always be lacking.

best quote I have read regarding FIFA 12... this is what I been asking for the last couple of years. If the pressure abuser is not as successful online then EA has made a great improvement that many including myself have been complaining about for years. Fatigue also has to have a bigger impact in FIFA when teams are double pressing full blast the entire match.

a simple change like this could make it the best footie game in a very long time for me
