FIFA 17 "must haves"

With E3 coming up soon, we can expect news about FIFA 17 within a month or so. I installed FIFA 16 just a few days ago to see if my disappointment with it was warranted... and boy was I ever generous when I said before the game was a disaster. So, here is a list of things about FIFA that drive me crazy that I hope EA will repair. I'm coming at this from a mostly single player experience point of view, for context. I'm going to steal from my own post made months ago and add some new points.

-Career mode is atrocious and boring

-Managers of CPU teams dont change the roster enough. In CM, teams will be nearly identical except for a couple areas 5 years in. This is ridiculous and boring. This can be fixed a couple ways... 1) code the cpu properly or 2) Let users edit rosters and do their own transfers year to year so we can refresh the teams at our own whim

-Teams in CM mode all play the same way. Real Madrid, Palermo, Napoli, Spurs, all play the same. Whoever the manager of the team is should influence tactics and there should be a different "feel" for different teams. Otherwise CM mode becomes tedious.

-Youth academy is terrible. It needs a total overhaul. Players still come in with far too low a pace, and you can't scout specific positions. Last year it was VERY difficult to find strikers, as an example. YA needs to be totally re-invented.. if it remains as is I likely wont buy FIFA.

-Specifically, it takes far too long to scout, bring up, and groom a youth player. The average number of seasons a player plays in FIFA CM is likely around 3-5... so we never really get to appreciate the fruits of your YA.

-If EA cant be bothered to redo YA, at least make it so youth come in with the highest physical attributes they will ever have, and develop their technicals. This is how life works. As you age your technique improves and your physical body slows down.

-Loaning players shouldn't be a chore. It should work like this: you choose to loan a player and then within a week a number of clubs all offer you different loan options. It shouldn't be impossible or even an issue to loan a player. Period.

-The in game, pre game, post game presentation is the same cut scenes for years now. Years. YEARS. Commentary is terrible. Boring, boring, boring. Think of all the ####ing money people dump into EA and this is the microwave TV dinner presentation we get in return. It's stunning.

-Loose ball glitch is ... wow. So bad. It makes the game totally unplayable and silly. If you dont know what I mean, watch players reactions to loose balls. Half of the players on all loose balls will ignore the ball and actually back peddle or run away from it. It's incredibly stupid and wasn't there for the first version of the game. EA literaly added this glitch by mistake and never bothered to repair it.

-We need the ability to turn off firing/board expectations, or, loosen them. Ideally we should have an owner mode. If you love your team why should you have to be able to get fired? Let us be the owners of our favourite clubs if we so choose.

-Can we ignore invations to coach international teams please? If we aren't intending to use that mode, we should be able to ignore those annoying emails and turn them back on when we change our mind.

-CDM's attacking. Player tactics not working. Please remove or fix this "feature".

-This next one seems small and perhaps petty but...mother of god the captain armbands are boring and ugly. Let me choose from 10 armbands of various colours. You know how ugly it is to play as Palermo with yellow and red captain armband with a giant C? Why? Do it like PES does it and make it a solid colour that goes well with the kit. Or let us choose. OR, how about you spend an hour and update the armbands totally to reflect real life? You know, with the tens of millions we spend on this game every year?

Some game play stuff that drives me to madness:

-Keepers are too perfect on any shot around the edges of the box unless you have a good angle and can curve it in. You can have Messie middle of the box on the edge and be given 20 chances. All 20 will be saved by the keeper, and yes, they will all be spectacular looking.

-The CPU ai constantly effs up their crosses, giving you free possession. Yes even with your cpu pass error to 50. Yet, the CPU ai will also score maybe 20% of their free kicks from half with incredible headers. This is silly.

-Corners are essentially a waste of time for both human but especially AI. This creates a 'game on the rails' feel where you go to certain places to score and avoid others.

-CPU ai can make dazzling turn around shots roofing it, because they're not subject to a power bar like humans. They make shots and score goals not possible for human, which is incredibly unrealistic and makes the game have a strange /weird flow to it.

-Human passing is beyond atrocious. The leading is so bad, and often my passes are simply sent to the wrong person all together. Turning off some passing assistance only makes things worse. I've been playing this series for years and I can promise you I know what I'm doing and am good at this game. So please dont bother with the weakest argument on the internet "learn 2 play". That argument is boring and invalid.

-Good teams playing bad, and bad teams playing good. This is very noticable in career mode. You will get a very limp effort from a strong side like Bayern, meanwhile, Nuremburg will come out and play like super heros.

TLDR version of my post:

Legacy issues still haunt this game, please fix them. Make teams play different than each other, improve roster management of AI teams in manager mode, and make it so theres more variations of goals scored. Give some love to manager mode and offline players. Apologies if some feel this is too similar to a previous post but the new game is coming in a bit and I wanted to add some new thoughts.

Re: FIFA 17 "must haves"

...some good points, i'm sure they're gonna add most stuff to FIFA.....to FIFA 2020

On E3 ,or better said on their own EA-Play Event, they will more likely show the new cover of FIFA, the new teams they licensed and not to forget the new FUT-Features and some gameplay-optimisations...and ofc some new women-teams.

I hope i didn't take away the thrill of anticpiation for their FIFA-LiveStream.

More than 10 save slots... For real. How can my xbox have a 500gb hard drive but FIFA can only save 10 separate files in manager/player careers?

More opportunities for youth academy players to get time playing.

Career mode: both manager and player career modes are pretty bland. Too much of a focus on FUT has left little change or variety in other game modes.

As a mostly pro clubs player I'd like them to get rid of a lot of the stupid accomplishments needed, and let me use my catalog points to upgrade my pro (similar to 2k). Maybe have your career mode player transfer as your pro clubs player as well (2k).

You raise some fair points--but I've quoted what I agree with most.

Playing with high quality teams (i.e. Arsenal), when you find a youth with 82-94 POT, but comes in at like a 52 OVR--it will be YEARS before he sees the pitch.

I understand there aren't exactly a lot of teens playing for the likes of Arsenal, City, United (err...)...but most of the time these kids will never play as we've already lost our interest in the CM.

Seems most players come in with terrible physical stats and would just get worked on the pitch--so you really can't play them.

-------------------

Now, one of MY biggest issues--is that you can't see youth work rates. As a test, I went ahead and signed almost all of my players I was 'considering signing'. Then look at their workrates and they're mostly all useless to me. ST and wingers with M/L rates, a very promising CDM with L/L workrate. Another very promising CB with 1* WF and 1* skills. I don't want to take the time to scout these players only to find out things like that--making them essentially worthless.

Beyond frustrating.

Re: FIFA 17 "must haves"

I'm a NBA 2k player. And one of the things I miss the most on Fifa is the depth of the sliders. You can't barely do much with it.

Look at what 2k did with sliders. You can't adjust the game to your liking. That's a huge step in sports games IMO.

Other things that bores me to death in Fifa it's the lack of classical teams. You could have tons of historical teams and national squads. You could even have an Ultimate Team mode focused on historical players. That would be dope.

Or they could at least bring back the Creation Centre we had in the last gen.

Career mode legends would great. Playing through their career on a modern team then becoming a manager.

Re: FIFA 17 "must haves"

what really pissed me off in the career-mode, i had to sell Robben and Boateng. And when a Lewandowski-transfer rumour popped up i was getting kind of upset, luckily he decided to stay.

There must be an option to make'em stay, either with money or with some talking, a 60/40 chance.

However, if my team wouldn't reach the Champion League, i would appreciate some of those "must-transfers" for the best players in my club leaving for a better club.
