Euro League Weirdness

I am playing my first time in the Euro league and had a weird situation happen in the round of 16. I had thought the games would be a home & home section where if tied on aggregate after the 2 we'd play OT then a shootout if needed.

I play game 1 to a 0-0 draw.

I play game 2 to a 2-2 draw.

Towards the end of game 2 I thought it was weird that the cpu was in full on pressure "I've gotta score now mode" instead of playing to OT. End of time - my guys celebrate - and the announcer says I'm on to the next round on aggregate (which was 2-2).

Was that a bug?

I saw other CPU pairings in the same round end up in a shootout.

Re: Euro League Weirdness

It's not a bug.

Away goals count double if the aggregrate score is tied after regulation of the second leg.
You drew scoreless at home and scored two away, so you advance.

That's the reason why IRL you see away teams, push for a goal, even if they are down 2:0 or 3:0 and home teams look for a clean sheet.

See Wikipedia: Away goals rule

To add to gro299's excellent explanation, shootouts can occur but only if both sides are still equal after applying the away goals rule- like if both games end 0-0 or 1-1

Thanks - easy enough to follow.
