Home Field Advantage

Just curious- I've seen a lot (pretty much all) slider sets have HFA turned off... is there a specific reason for that? Does that actually effect the performance of the CPU? I had the impression it pretty much just effected the user gameplay (or tried to)

Re: Home Field Advantage

I always keep it on in my sliders. I want the home team to have an advantage as I think that's very realistic.

In my current dynasty I've played 178 games and my overall win% is 0.792 (141-37). My win% at home is 0.923 (72-6) while it's 0.667 (42-21) on the road. That makes me 27-10 (0.730) in neutral site games. I would absolutely prefer to have those numbers than to be 0.792 overall, 0.792 at home and 0.792 on the road.

There is 1 minor caveat with my numbers. I have 3 non-conference games per year; 1 neutral site game against a power 5, 1 home/away against a ranked power 5, 1 MAC team at home (I'm Michigan). The MAC team basically gives me 1 free home win every year (since Michigan would obviously never play at a MAC school) so that inflates my home % and deflates my away % slightly, but I still have a MUCH better winning% at home than on the road, just the way it should be.

I keep it on for the reason listed above. It's more realistic. Vegas gives a couple of points (depending on the sport) to the home team for home field/court advantage.

Re: Home Field Advantage

I was just wondering if it effected the CPU play at all (say I'm the home team) or if it basically just makes to tougher for me when I'm on the road.

I also play with HFA on, for realism. Betting markets factor it in because there is considerable evidence for a home advantage in football and other sports. Jello's record would suggest that the HFA setting applies to CPU performance.
