Has this happened to anyone???

So I was testing a custom playbook for Ohio State in a CPU vs. CPU dynasty game. I had them set to aggressive no huddle, the one where they look to the sideline before snapping the ball. Through the first quarter Ohio State had a good run/pass balance as well as a good balance between quarterback/running back carrying the ball. Near the end of the quarter, they hit a pass down the left seam for 40 yards, giving them first and goal at the four. They hurry down and line up in a shotgun formation and, before they look over to the sideline, the center snaps it to... himself. He runs it into the endzone for a touchdown.

After the score, I checked the stats. No touchdown appeared in the scoring summary. The center wasn't given 1 carry for 4 yards under rushing stats. The kicker was credited with the extra point, though.

Obvious glitch... could this have happened because of the CPU using a custom playbook? Or maybe the play itself is glitched? I'm not sure what the play call was since it was CPU vs. CPU.

Has anyone else experienced the ol' center sneak???

Re: Has this happened to anyone???

You're definitely not the 1st to see this and no, it's not caused by a CPB (I've had the CPU do it to me before and they used a default PB).

I think it's caused by an alignment issue (which only happens in no huddle). I've seen it before where an OL will line up slightly off from where he's supposed to be so that he can't put his hand in the dirt (because his avatar will clip another player's avatar) so the QB will just stand there waiting for him to get set until the play clock runs out.

For your issue with the center keeping the ball, I think in this case the QB's alignment is off and he's not exactly behind the center like he's supposed to be so the center's program code can't snap it to the QB so he just keeps it. I'm not positive about this, but in the 3 or 4 times I've seen this, that seemed to be the case, but of course it's not something that I can set up and test since I never know when it'll happen.

Jello gave a great answer to your question. But you're definitely not alone. I've had it happen a few times too on both sides of the ball. It's happened when I'm on offense, and it's happened while I'm on defense. It's pretty frustrating

Re: Has this happened to anyone???

Thanks for the replies, guys. A couple of games later, it's happened again. Checking the replay, the QB seems to be lined up where he should be, so I'm not sure if that's why it's happening.

I've owned this game since its release, so I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen this since now. I'm just happy that it's not tied to custom playbooks.

I've noticed it happens more with hurry up teams. I don't know if I've ever seen it when a team huddles.

Re: Has this happened to anyone???

I encountered this intermittently as a DC in dynasty, perhaps once per season. However, I encounter this much more frequently when playing as a defender in RTG. It has only ever occurred in no-huddle situations; never have seen this coming out of no-huddle. In RTG, the AI opponents use default playbooks.

There was a known glitch involving some of the shotgun formations that would elicit a direct snap to a RB (not the HB Direct play in Normal Offset or whatever). Instructions can be found on YouTube. The glitch involved changing from one shotgun formation to another while operating in no-huddle.

I always attributed this center-keeps-the-ball glitch to a similar mishap in the code. Honestly, the first time I encountered it, I thought it was some trick play and performed a Google search which lead me to the video described in the above paragraph.
