Frustration mounts over coaching carousel

Any one get frustrated with the coaching carousel? I went 12-2 with the Washington State Cougars just to have my head coach leave and then on top of that i am not even considered for the new head coach vacancy? Bah! This will be the second dynasty that i have been stuck with a new head coach that is hands down worse then my OC David Yost. I couldn't leave my job. I just landed some awesome pocket passing QBs and good WRs. Hopefully this new coach doesn't mess with my mojo on offense.

Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Frustration mounts over coaching carousel

The AI teams don't give preference towards promoting coaches from within the program. If they don't hire another team's head coach, and opt to hire a coordinator, they'll pool all coordinators and offer to the best one. Statistically, someone must have put up better than you.

Your best bet, honestly, is to take a HC job at a school in a non-AQ conference (CUSA, Sun Belt, etc), get a few winning seasons and bowl wins under your belt and hope WSU is looking for a new head coach soon.

See i would be okay with this if it's what happened, but truth be told the Utah State Ex HC Wells got the job after going 6-7 with 2 years as a head coach and a level 4.

I will have to say that i have seen an OC on occasion get promoted to HC of the same school. I am in beginning of yr 2019 so in the previous yrs i think it might have happended once or twice during each coaching carousel go round. But like you mentioned OCs don't get that lucky to get promoted to HC of their current team.

it happens more when a coach leaves the team to take another job than when he is fired

The coordinators from that school are also in the pool of coordinators they're looking to hire from, so it makes sense that they're occasionally the one that the team picks. My point was that they're not given "hometown" preference, nor do they consider the coordinators' familiarity with the program. In other words, teams don't go out of their way to hire from within the program, but they don't exclude their own team's coordinators either.

Smaller programs (1*, 2*) who can't hire big name coaches do a pretty good job of promoting their coordinators. Larger schools will usually find another HC to fill the position, which I think is pretty realistic (in my 20+ years of my dynasty I've seen bunches of bunches or coordinators get promoted to HC of smaller schools when their HC gets hired somewhere more prestigious. IE. in real life if Nick Saban were to leave, Bama certainly wouldn't sign one of their coordinators, but they'd find another high profile HC for the job.

Re: Frustration mounts over coaching carousel

I get what you guys are saying. It was just frustrating because Mike Leech has a great playbook and the team was set up for the Air Raid after my recruiting, then we get a terrible HC who is running the spread. I don't like the spread and didn't like the disadvantages that this new HC has. Terrible at recruiting and one of my recruits transferred to Kansas because Leech went there. I could have left but I liked the recruits i got. Plus i hate leaving a school after one season.
