Recruiting: What is more difficult?

When it come's to recruiting, do you find it more difficult as a 1* school or a 6* school? I realize that sounds pretty obvious, but as a lower level school, you find the guys who are willing to come play for you, occasionally getting in a recruiting war with a bigger school. At a school like LSU (I took the OC spot there after four years in the Sun Belt), however, everyone wants to play for you and you have to spend more time sorting through the players, juggling team need vs I want, and convincing yourself that you don't need to offer scholarships to the 20 4* WRs/HBs that have LSU at the top of their list. Is it easier to get players at LSU? Absolutely. But what is more of a pain in the *** to deal with and what do you do to make it easier on yourselves?

In my opinion, its easier recruting for a smaller school, like you said you find more players willing to play for you, and with the big schools you got to compete more with the higher recruits.

I forgot to mention the fact that if you are a 6* school, the kids you want/need are also the kids that Alabama/USC/Ohio State/etc want/need, which turns most of your player recruitments into battles.

I think it would be more fun at a small school. I plan on doing a MTSU dynasty this year for my alma mater.

I will also do one for UK in the SEC since I love UK and always have. It is fun for them as well but once you have a good season...the old "We are in the SEC, good recruits flock to us" thing comes into play, which is cool the 1st time, but then I start getting top 5 classes every year and dominating, which gets redundant.

Recruiting at a small school is typically easier because most the guys your recruiting aren't be offered by anyone else. At an elite school, recruiting can get competitive when competing for the elite prospects. I personally prefer recruiting at an elite school but there's a lot of fun in both.

I have trouble with small schools because the pitches all suck. I usually have to bank on proximity and campus lifestyle in previous versions. This year playing style has helped me some.

Re: Recruiting: What is more difficult?

I prefer to go head to head with the other big schools in recruiting. It gives me the feel of the major recruiting battles that happen IRL. Plus, when you land those two or three studs that you know you've been battling hard for since week one, I feel like I've accomplished something. I also like to schedule the #2 team I beat out for that recruit's services the next season as a way to show them what they missed out on (...that is if I project him as a contributor as a true frosh).

I've tried the whole "build a cupcake into a juggernaut" dynasty before and there was just no sense of accomplishment in landing recruits.

Re: Recruiting: What is more difficult?

Small schools for sure, but I also find it more rewarding and entertaining. Sure the recruits may be of poor quality, but finding a poor quality player or two that is something special compared to the rest, it changes everything. When at an established big school where you can cherry pick your recruits its not difficult to rattle off 1 or 2 loss seasons year after year.

To me, when you're at the top and all your pitches work the challenge comes from other schools and other schools only. It may be just me, but I also find when at a big school the players you bring in don't matter as much, just as long as they're highly rated. You may bring in a great QB, HB and WR all in the same year, but because you're probably already good at those positions they may still not see the field for two years because they're 3rd or 4th on the depth chart. Basically, what I'm saying is when playing with a bigger school with established talent incoming recruits don't have nearly the impact a lesser recruit would have at a small school.

At a small school it's likely a 70 overall true freshmen will start from day 1. With a big school its possible that 70 overall true freshmen never sees the field if the year after they sign a higher rated prospect who comes in at a 77. Especially with progression how it is.

That in itself is boring to me. One of the most rewarding experiences I've had playing video games is when I signed four 3* players my first year at Eastern Michigan. The next year they started as true freshmen, 2 of the 4 playing both ways, and stayed all four years and lead my team from day one.
