Can someone who doesn't follow College Football enjoy this game?

Madden sucks this year. It was okay, then EA destroyed the thing they had going for it: Gameplanning.

Long story short, I have no way to get my football video gaming fix in now.

I don't know anything at all about college football. I can't even name one player that plays in college.

Do you think I can still enjoy this game despite that? I can't play madden anymore.

Also, can someone that has played both give me a quick comparison? Like franchise mode vs. dynasty, the superstar mode, and just general gameplay.

NOTE: I won't play online at all, so don't figure that in.

I would highly recommend renting before buying in your case to make sure you actually enjoy the game.

I think your enjoyment could hinge on if you playing football for the sake of playing football, or if you only enjoy playing teams you can connect too. I will say though that college has some things going for it. There are more types of unique offenses and varied skill levels for the various teams. I enjoy recruiting but I am by no means sure if you would or not as it is somewhat time consuming. I would say the biggest difference between dynasty and franchise is that players do not stick around as long in college so you may only get to use various players for a year or two before having to say goodbye. I have not played the superstar/road to glory feature yet so I can not comment on that.

From what it sounds like, I think I might like the recruiting.

Seems to be a big part of the NCAA football in real life and on the game.

It's football, so not knowing the college game shouldn't be a problem. Only difference in rules are in college, all you need is one foot in bounds to have a completed pass. Also, after you get a first down, the clock stops until you line up again.

Player's names aren't used in this game (Unless you update rosters), so that shouldn't be a problem either.

As for the game-----having not played Madden, I can't compare. What I do know is I'm a first time NCAA football buyer this year, and am in year two of my dynasty. I'm still loving this game, they did a helluva job on it.

The animations, back-of-the-endzone catches, etc. are all sweet. The run blocking is superb this year.

I think you should rent it or play the demo (There's four games in the demo, that should be enough to give you a taste)

Its certainly possible, I really enjoy the MLB and FIFA games even though I do not follow either sport. Mostly for the franchise modes.

It is kind of funny, while I am playing those games, I actually do follow the sport for awhile, atleast as long as I am interested in the game. But pay them no attention the rest of the year.

These are not the only rule differences.

As for first downs, the clock is stopped until the ball has been placed and marked ready for play. If you no huddle, you'll be able to snap it just as the clock is starting (and possibly without no huddling if you call a play quickly enough).
However, if you use a lot of your play clock to pick your play, the game clock will eventually start back up.

Also, going out of bounds will not stop the clock except in like the final 2 minutes of each half (or something like that). Outside of this time period, running out of bounds does nothing except prevent your player from being hit. The only way to stop the clock is with a timeout, incomplete pass, turnover, injury, or penalty.

I don't even like football and I love this game, so yes.

Those differences would actually considerably change strategy.

I'll check out the demo.

It's too bad NBA 2k11 was so damn good this year. Normally this is football time, but I couldn't resist. Now I'm strapped for cash and stuck with ****ty madden.
