What exactly happens when a coaching contract expires?

Just wondering. I don't think I've ever let one run out.

I know you get and can accept offers when you're in a contract, and if you sign an extension. But what happens when the contract actually expires? Do you get a bigger list of schools to choose from? Or is it just the same list of three or so, without the option to stay?

Good question. I always take the extension when offered. In 09 I did have one run out/ no extension offered after simming the first 2 seasons. I was at a 6* school so I had my choice of any school 4* or lower. I went with Miami then. I have never had that happen since.

That's what I'm hoping for -- that they're might be a big list of schools to choose from instead of just that random three.

And I'm hoping the school that I'm at now, that I let the contract expire at, is on that list as well, in case I change my mind and want to spend some more time there between the time I turn down my last extension offer and the end of the contract.

I suppose I could just start a new dynasty with somebody and sim a few seasons and see what happens. But I'll hold out for a while and see if anybody on here knows.

Make sure you save before you reject the extension because if oyu decline it after your contract year you won't be able to choose the team you were originally with. At least I wasn't able to in my Ark State dynasty. I rejected the extension and it gave me a bunch of lower tiered schools to choose from.

This is a good question, of course I have never had this happen though I do wonder why they give you a contract extension a year or 2 after they gave you already. I would want to know what happens if you extend with a school and leave with 3 or 4 years left on the contract? Like I got a 4 year extension with Alabama and I am entering Year 3 of 7 and I'm sure I'll get offers else where but what would happen if I leave Alabama with 3?

As far as I know, you get a big list of schools, but it's only schools with lower prestige than the one you were already coaching. So if you're at a 3 star school, you'll only get the option of 2 star or lower.
