Was reading the crazy penalty thread and got to thinking of some crazy stuff I've seen while playing videogame football. One hilarious memory I had was from NFL 2k2 for the Dreamcast. I was in the army and had started a franchise mode with 6 other guys. We picked our teams and did a fantasy draft and everything. Well, one of these guys was awful. And I mean, he stunk. After 4 games he was 0-4 and hadn't yet won a game. The difficulty was turned down to rookie for him when he played. But he kept chugging along anyway, never getting too upset because he was getting a little better every game. So he finally plays a decent game during week 5. It was a nice back and forth game, and he took a three point lead with less than a minute to go. But the game went into comeback mode (you know what I'm talking about), and drives down the field and into field goal range. There is only 4 seconds left and the computer has a short field goal to tie the game up and send it to OT (when I say short, I mean like a long extra point). But the CPU is on the right hash mark, so they have an angle to kick it at, and it's on rookie level where they don't kick well. Well, the kick went up, and CLANG!!! right off the upright. Buddy drops the controller and jumps up in the air with his hands to the sky yelling, "YES! YES!" Well, just as he does that, the ball comes tumbling down, and one of the TEs that was blocking had followed the kick downfield, and the ball dropped right into his hands. TOUCHDOWN! Game was over. LMAO...still not sure that you're allowed to do that in real life, but the game gave the CPU the TD and the win. He melted down and quit playing our franchise that night, but it's still one of the funniest things I've ever seen on a FB game.

This was back when Rex Grossman was still at UF, I was playing a friend and he was using Florida. Well, a punt pinneed him inside his 1 yard line with under a minute to go in the fourth quarter of a tie game. On first and second down, he QB sneaks so he doesn't get stoped for a safety. On third and 10 from inside his 1 yard line, he runs another QB sneak, but this time my defense parts and Grossman goes 99 yards for the game winning TD. We went back and watched the replay and my whole team was just jogging down field after he passed everyone, instead of trying to chase him down.

DISCLAMER: This is very long, hopefully you guys have the patience to read all this and truely grasp the feeling I had when it happened, truely the best moment I have ever had in ANY football game ever.

For the record, I am new here (been lurking around OS, this place is great, its nice to have a place to share my best game stories and have it actually recognized). I played footbal from when I was 5 until last year, when I was 22, playing 5 years of college football before hanging up the pads, so believe me when I say I have an extreme passion for playing the game or anything to do with it. For the record, on NCAA every year I ONLY ever play with Virginia Tech, and for Madden, I play with Dallas Cowboys, NO EXCEPTIONS. OK, to get you up to speed, NCAA 09, PS3, Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State, National Championship Game, Heisman difficulty, 7 min quarters, I lost 1 game early in the season, but I won the BCS bid after blowing out Florida state in the ACC championship game. So I barely snuck into the number 2 spot to get in the Nat'l title game.

Fast forward to 4th quarter, I am getting blasted, 24-7, 7 min left in the game, I have hardly had any offensive plays to get me anywhere (scored of INT return). Ok, so I have the ball on my side of the field, I drop back with Tyrod, I run around the pocket, as I am more of a scrambler than a pocket passer, I like making guys get open with my legs. I roll out to the right as linebacker closes in on me, my WR dumps in behind the linebacker on a slant, catches the ball, Tyrod takes the hit, but I am off to the races with the WR 60 some yards for the TD, 24-14 with around 5 minutes left, BUT...Tyrod goes out for the game, Oh gosh! In comes Sean Glennon, pocket passer, and like i said, I am not a good pocket passer, so this has me worried. So they get the ball, drive down to around my 35 yard line, I hault them. They line up for a field goal with a little over 3 minutes left, and WIDE RIGHT! 24-14, 3 minutes left, my ball. Sean glennon has a nice start, as I do this money place out of ace where you have 2 te's on the right, one a yard off the ball, receiver to the left of field, and the underneath TE goes on a deep out pattern, other TE has a blocking delayed drag towards sideline...one or the other is almost always open. So I hit my TE on the drag after they bring the blitz, he catches it, breaks 2 tackles and he is off for a TD with around 2:30 to go, 24-21. I am feeling good at this point. So on the ensuing kicking off, the unthinkable happens...they field the ball and he goes untouched over 100 yards for a KR TD, 31-21...and my sails deflated after this. Close to 2 minutes left, down by 10 points, almost impossible to come back from. So regardless, I go after it anyways, I drive down the field on a long pass to my RB and he gets down to the 30ish of Oh. state and I call a time out with about 1:30 left. I pull out shotgun 4 wr spread, call double smash routes to both sides of the field. Danny Coale is sent down left side of the field, running the route perfectly, safety over top, corner bites on underneath, I throw the pass, but Glennon is terrible inaccurate, safety jumps the pass and Interception around the 5 yard line, NOOOOOOOOO i scream, thats the game...its done for. About that time, the defender catches the ball, he spins, my receiver hits him, pushes him back into the endzone from the field of play, and another receiver comes up and takes his legs out in the endzone, and what do you know, a freaking safety!!!!!!!!!!! 31-23, down 8 points, about a minute left 2 time outs, and that was the luckiest thing I ever seen before. At this point I am worried cause the game is on the line, AGAIN, but I suck it up and I field the ball and get to about the 25, not a good spot like I had hoped. 50ish seconds left...I hit danny coale on a play action route , he runs it down the left sideline and he is off to the races, all the sudden bam the safety cuts me off and i fumble out of bounds around their 35 yard line. I pass the ball 3 times in a row, all resulting in incompletions, at this point I am fuming, 4-10, 35 yard line, 25 or so seconds left, 2 time outs...game on the line. So I call a flag route to Boykin to the right side of the field, he catches the ball, and he runs down to the 14yard line and tackled, time out quickly, with 17 seconds left. I then try a play, and I get sacked, but I only lose a yard, so I call a time out with 10 seconds left from the 15 yard line. I am sweatin bullets, i get tackled in play its game over. So I pull out what I know best, my money TE playaction pass...I drop back, DT comes free, I have to dump it off, I hit my TE underneath on the delay drag, he runs to the 2 goes to dive in the pylon and BAM, shoved out of bounds, with no time left, game over. HOLD ON, the booth reviews the spot of the ball, come to find out after slow mo, he snuck his left foot inside the pylon with the ball in possession, and they overturned it, TOUCHDOWN!!!!! 31-29 with no time left on the clock, this is it. One last chance to seal one of the best comebacks ever. So I again, being me and sticking with what works, I pull out that play action te pass. This time they approach the line with linebackers pushed over my te's to the right, leaving left side one one coverage on my WR...so I hot routed to a slant behind the lb's. Well i hike the ball, they did a hell of a job hiding their coverage, as it looked like man, but dropped back into cover 2...oh god. Cover 2 will not let this play work. So i roll to the right, both my te's running towards right sideline about 5 yards apart, both covered tightly. the te that released first went to sideline, but then cuts back to the center of the field and chips the linebacker cover my drag TE, and gives him a slight break, I see it, dump the pass off and the conversion is GOOD 31-31 all tied up and time for overtime!!!!!! I was jumpin up and down and screaming, could not believe I mounted this big of a comeback. So OT starts, they get the ball first, 31-31, and what do ya know, touchdown on the first play from the 25 yard line, 38-31. so I get the ball, after 2 tries, I finally pull out an option that goes the distance and I score, 38-38. So then I get the ball, they hold me, and I kick a fieldgoal, 41-38. They get the ball, foster's defense swells up, and stop them, they gotta kick, so its 41-41. Here is where things go crazy. They get the ball, knowing extra points can no longer be kicked as its the 3rd round, and my d swells again, and I hold them to a field goal, 44-41. I get the ball, 3 incompletions later I am facing 4th down and 10, nervous as hell, game on the line. I pause it to re-think my strategy and I realize, if I don't get a touchdown here, I am going to keep them in this game with as much hurtin as they have been puttin on me and they gonna end up scoring and getting the 2 point conversion to win the game, 4th OT was out of the question. So, I did the unthinkinable...no...the unimaginable. Now, normally, I am a big time conservative play caller, I won't do anything too riskey to save me making big mistakes. But i went against my normal judgement this time, and I bring up that ace formation with two te's to the right, wr to the left, but instead of calling the normal play action pass to the right, I call a draw play...yes folks, draw play on 4th and 10 with game on the line. I hike the ball, glennon sits back, their linebackers drop into coverage expecting the pass, and i hand it off to darren evans up the gut. I break through the line, 2 linebackers converge on me and I juke to the right, sending them into the line grasping air, and at this point, i was approaching the first down marker. I then juked left, and the free safety COMPLETELY wiffed, I make it across first down marker, still holding my breath, but the strong safety approaches fast and hard from the side, he hits me in the back, but it does one of those animations where they grab on to your pads, but fall off and hit the ground, he sends me flying forward, and I cross the line, TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!! GAME OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yep, I scored a TD on 4th and 10 from the 25 yard line in 3rd OT against oh. state, and it was the most amazing feat I have ever had. What ensued, still sticks with me to this day, as it cued some commentary I have never heard before. The announcers were hollering and screaming and said ITS OVER ITS OVER THEY HAVE DONE IT!!!! THIS WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE GUTSIEST PLAYS OFF ALL TIME RUNNING THE BALL ON 4TH DOWN TO WIN THE BALL GAME!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT COACH!!?!?! and they keep going on and on analyizng what had just happened, and I was freakin out cause I never seen a finish like that in any video game ever. I won the game 47-41 as the underdogs against an undefeated buckeyes team, that was picked to win. I was completely decimated at the beginning and Glennon stepped in for an injured tyrod and brought us back to win. Needless to say, next season, Glennon earned the starting position. Still to this day, I have never forgot anything that happened during that game, it plays over in my head. I take anything pertaining to football serious and every year i purchase madden and ncaa and live out my passion for football on the sticks. Thanks EA sports, regardless of the bugs/glitches/errors the games have, for allowing us to be able to play football especially for people that made it as far as they could go and no longer have football in their lives. I hope you guys enjoyed my game and take the patience to read it, thumbs up to OS for having these forums, and allowing us to share our stories. Too many times I have shared my game stories to friends and they have gone greatly unappreciated. Let's hear some more good game stories from you guys, i sit at work everyday and live on these forums pretty much.

back for NCAA 06 i was texas tech and was playing agains texas at home. i was undefeted and down by 5 on my own 30yrd line. with 3 seconds left. Basically i had to do a hail marry. To make matters worse my 2nd string QB was in the game as my starter got knocked out for a few weeks. I threw it up and my WR catches the ball but the corner is right with him and he laterals the ball to my other WR who was near him and he runs it the rest of the way for the touchdown and i win the game and what makes it sweet is that i ended up winning the national championship with Texas Tech that year beating florida

Wow MM, that was an impressive story...I think if more games could have exciting finishes like that no one would ever put down the sticks on this game. And LOL @ the HB Draw on 4th down...that play never works!

oh I know man, trust me, it was awesome. I could not believe how perfect of a finish that was, I don't think any other game I could ever have will top that finish. It is just unheard of.

Yeah, the draw on 4th down was insane, and until that game, I had not even called a draw play, LOL.

Ok, I have 2 more games to post up from my NCAA '10 dynasty for ps3, using 8 min quarters and Playmaker's Varsity sliders.

I put them in last night, 1st year of my dynasty with Virginia Tech, I was sitting at 4-0 on the year, had been blowing everyone out of the water, even alabama 66-42 at first of the year and miami 42-17, so I figured it was time for a change. So I put the sliders on, but I felt I had to tweak my qb accuracy down a bit, and cpu's up a hair, and push my pass blocking up a hair. I was beating duke 28-0 in 4th quarter, and after a huge 4th down stop on me, they found momentum and capitalized on my mistake and scored a td, 28-7. Then, they hold me 3 and out on next series stuffing my run, get the ball back, score 28-14. So at this point, I am startin to sweat, 4 minutes left in the game, they got the big MO, its on like donkey kong. So they kick the ball off to me, hold me 3 and out AGAIN, so i am forced to punt and I push em back deep and down the ball on the 4 yard line, mind you the last 2 drives were 81 and 92 yards, so at this point I am sweatin gun powder. So they drop back, nekos brown sheds the blocker and smashed the qb in the endzone for a safety, 30-14 with a hair under 3 minutes left. Kick the ball off to me, and again, they stuff my run game. But on 3rd down and 13, I drop back and hit a smash route to Darnell Roberts (they blitzed the house expecting run) and I take it for 7, to go up 37-14 with about a minute or so left in the game, and from there my defense stood strong. That was my first of 2 games. So I was like okay, that game played really realistically, but lets give it another shot, so I start my next game against Boston College, they are ranked #22, i am #5, and Kirk Herbstreit had picked them to walk the dog on me cause of my past defensive vulnerability. This game was a BARN BURNER! It was heavy rain, severe overcast, so it had a cold eerie feel to it, I loved the atmosphere. I was winning 24-7 in 2nd quarter, having no problems at all moving the ball on the ground, but could not complete a pass (ended up 19-37 on the day) the ball kept sliding out of their hands, which was so realistic. Well end of 2nd quarter, they get a touchdown after a huge pass play for 63 yards, then they shut me down, get the ball back, drive down and kick a 51 yard field goal with 2 seconds left that boucned off the cross-bar and through the uprights, to make it 24-17 at half. 2nd half was defense, defense, defense, something I am never used to, as all my games have been like college basketball games in terms of scoring. So they hold me throughout the 3rd quarter, and grab a field goal, game is 24-20 going in the 4th, of course I put my 4 fingers up cause at this point, I am like man these sliders are the real deal, this is real football here. So I finally mount a drive and hit Greg Boone on a 30 some odd yard touchdown pass to go up 31-20 with like 6 minutes in the 4th left ( I play 8 minute quarters). I am feeling confident at this point, but just as I do, here comes their offense...they drive all the way down the field on a 3 minute drive, but I hold them to a field goal inside the goal line, 31-23. I am like ok, get the ball back, run the clock down, game over right? WRONG! I get the ball, run it on first down, break it 23 yards, but I see there is a flag on the play, offensive holding, bring it back, 1st and 23...they ended up shutting my running game down, i go 3 and out, punt ball to them. On the next drive, they have a methodical drive, burn me up for 10 plays, 81 yards, and on the touchdown play, their running back runs on 4th down, breaks 2 tackles to the left, and looks like the computer pulled back on the highlight stick, and my linebacker went flying infront of him, and he did like this side dive to land across the goalline for the td...they come out in goaline formation on 2pt conversion, and convert, 31-31 with 1 minute 25 seconds left. So I am like ok, 3 time outs, over a minute to play, lets drive and get a field goal. immediately i come out in play action bootleg to the left sending all my receivers to wide side of the field, but they blitz the house and I have absolutely no body open and about 6 defenders in tyrod's face...so I swing out to the right with these guys on my heels, juke one defender and take it for about a 34 yard gain down to the 40 yard line, sitting pretty with about a minute left. Lets get one more pass play, run the ball, line it up, kick it, win the game. So on the next play, I did another play action to the left, different play, but this time, defender beats ed wang across his post foot and sticks his helmet in tyrod's chin as he is throwing the ball, it lofts in the air, and their linebacker picks it off, OH ****!!!!!!!!!!!! but wait, there is a flag on the play...come to find out, it was holding on dechristopher...great, so its declined, their ball with right at a minute left to play on my 40ish yard line. First play, they drop back, I put on man coverage and press the receivers, rashad carmichael jumps the pass for an interception! ALRIGHT, another chance to win! My first play, I drop back to throw, hit in the back, ball goes forward, d-end picks it off, OH MY GOSH NOT AGAIN and in field goal range this time. This is definately game over. First play they run, they drop back, throw across middle, and Hill (can't remember his first name) jumps the slant route and INTERCEPTION AGAIN, thats right 4 int's within about 20 seconds. So i get the ball, and on first play i get slammed for a sack with about 20 seconds left, so i let clock wind down going in to OT. They win toss, elect offense. So on first play, they drop back, I run cover 2, they have 2 wr's split left, he goes for the streak on inside receiver, my safety jumps it INTERCEPTION!!!!!!! ALRIGHT now lets run the ball, kick it game over. So i run it 3 times, pick up a first down, line up in the middle and kick the game winning field goal 34-31, VT. What a game says the announcers and I was really digging this game.

Ok, I have to share my game from Saturday with VT against Georgia Tech. I was #3 in this game, they were unranked sitting at a lousy 3-3. But before the game even started, I adjusted my gameplan because I knew that they run the option offense, and I am going to have to play lights out run defense if I expect to win this game. Ok, so I start the game by electing offense as I want to come out and grab the momentum first so we have some emotion and excitement on the field. I sure did not disappoint as we drove right down the field and scored on a short run to darren evans, 7-0. So georgia tech comes out with thier option offense, and they are nickel and diming me down the field, I am worried at this point because I can't get my defense off the field. we get inside the goal line and I blitz the house 3 plays in a row and push them back to around the 15 tackling them a yard behind the line of scrimmage and a sack as well with an incompletion on 3rd down. They kick field goal, score is 7-3. Ensuing possession, I get the ball. First play, I drop back to throw, I make a bad decision and I throw across my body and its picked off infront of danny coale on my own 30. So they get the ball, drive down, and again defense swells up, its 7-6. On the next possession, I get the ball and I make a gutsy decision. I am like ok, lets use their own gameplan against them, see if it will work. So I do double tight single back ace, and do a speed option. it works quite a few times on this drive, running option out of a few different packages. So i get down the field, on the goal line, i run this play again, tyrod gets smacked, but i optioned the ball right before i hit the ground, williams catches it and runs it in for the td, 14-6. next couple drives we both get 3 and outs, with punts. So I get the ball after a punt around midfield. I run an option to the left on the first play, and I get SMACKED by their linebacker, I tried to pitch, but one of their guys dove at the same time, and the ball hit his helmet and bounced on the ground and they dove on it to recover. I am sweatin now, few minutes left in quarter, they got the ball. So they break out their option some more, and bust it down the field to around the 12 yard line. One 4th and inches, they do a wr motion-option to the left, but nesbit holds on to it, hurdles kam chancellor, and dives over barquell rivers for the td, 14-13. So i get the ball, 2 minutes left in half, I drive down the field with EASE, lighting up their defense through the air. I get to the 3 yard line with 20 seconds to go, so i decide to do an option, BAD decision. I am heading towards goaline, end sheds his block and sticks tyrod. I pitch the ball to evans, but our wide receiver pushed the cornerback down into the play, and he cuts off the pitch and catches it in mid air and gets tackled on the 3 yard line with 13 seconds left. so I am like ok, lets blitz the hell out of them and get a safety. WRONG.....I do engage eight, blow through the line and completely wiff on tackling their full back in the backfield, and he completely plows over Rivers, and he is off to the races...no one even near him as he is heading to the endzone with time ticking off. I bring rashad carmichael up behind him and I get a shoe string tackle around the 32 yard line on my side of the field, THANK GOD. So they call timeout with 2 seconds left, line up for the 49 yarder. Snap is good, kick is up and it goes right off the right upright, NO GOOD! thank god I escaped first half mistakes and made it to halftime 14-13. So we start off the 2nd half, GT gets the ball and drives right down the field and I end up stuffing them, forcing them to punt. Great way to start 2nd half. Then I get the ball, I am driving down the field, and I end up throwing an interception in middle of the field. I am nervous because I keep turning the ball over in precious situations where I should have been able to put the game away. So again, we keep trading 3 and outs, and punts, and drives and the score remains 14-13 through 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter. Finally, around middle of the quarter, I mount a drive and break off another option to evans for a touchdown inside the goaline, going up 21-13. I am feeling confident, but I know its only a one score game. So they get the ball with 3:43 seconds left in 4th...they put together an awesome drive, going right down the field on me. They get to the 20 yard line, and they do a play action option pass, and their line really showed up on this play, as they held me for about 7 seconds, as he runs around the pocket. he plants his feet, their WR coming across back of the endzone, I see him and I am like oh no, here goes 6...He throws the ball, slightly behind him, and kam Chancellor jumps in the air with him, over his shoulder, and intercepts the pass in the endzone!!! I am freakin out, hell yeah what a play! 21-13, i got ball on the 20, 2:30ish left in the game. I figured I could run the ball and run the clock out. So I run it on first play, get a 9 yard game, but here we go again, the penalty bug bit me, holding on sergio render, back me up to my 13, 1st and 17. They end up shutting me down on 3rd down, tackling me 1 yard before the marker. I put my trust on my defense, and I punt the ball to them with 1:40ish left in the game. So I know my defense is playing stout pass coverage. First down, they try a pass, knocked down. 2nd and 10. Next play, try a pass, and I sack them back for minus 3 yards, its 3rd and 13. Next play, thompson breaks up the middle and bats the ball down, 4th and 13...I know one play and the game is over. He drops back, running around dodging my defenders, throws the ball up to their wide receiver to the left, I see 3 defenders closing in on their receiver and I automatically start sayin HELL YEAH GAME OVER!!!! about that time, he jumps in the air through the crowd and snatches the ball and brings it down. I am FREAKING OUT, WHAT JUST HAPPENED!??! 30 seconds left, they have the ball at my 25 yard line with a time out left. They drop back, run an underneath drag route to their tight end, he catches it, breaks 2 tackles and is headed to the endzone...i am screaming NO NO NO, and all the sudden BAM my safety plants him at the 2. I just know that this game is gonna be tied at this point with their option offense inside the 2 yard line with about 25 seconds left. First play, the drop back, try a fade route, but my corner bats the ball down, incomplete. 2nd and 2. Next play, they drop back, try another fade/corner route, and he over throws it into the crowd, 3rd and 2. Next play, they throw a swing pass to their full back that blazed me before the 1st half ended and he catches it on the right, headed right to the endzone, i am screaming SOMEONE TACKLE HIS ***, and I just knew he was in there, cause no one was there. Well his momentum carried him to the sideline after catching the ball, he juked back and when he did, Hill broke off his block and I used the hitstick and I cold-cocked him right in the face (the one where it looks like they give him a flying forearm to the face). He goes down HARD at the 1 inch line, stopped JUST short with 10 seconds left and they are forced to call a timeout as the guy is injured. He got knocked the EFF OUT...I stood up and go WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...my fiance was reading the paper on the couch and even she goes wow, he got the hell knocked out of him, lol. So 4th down and inches from the goaline...I load the middle of the line, they put receiver in option, i pinch my linemen in the middle, he hikes the ball, goes for the playaction end around, and I juke past the right guard, qb turns around and he gets completely plowed and rolled up for the sack and it was GAME OVER!!! My defense held on 4 downs from the 2 yard line with the game on the line, I was flipping out. What ANOTHER bad *** finish to an awesome game. I cannot believe how great playmaker's sliders work making each game realistic as hell. I actually have defensive battles now, its so intense.
