Oh ok, I see how some do it now. I actually play out a season in each title and go back and forth. I'm usually trying to see if the specific player I'm using in NCAA can make it to the draft.

The issue isn't that they didn't get them fixed by release -- that would have been impossible since the game was already beyond the point when they could make changes at that time. The issue is that they had a month and a half head start to get these issues patched and tested, and had they done so, they either could have been addressed in this first roster patch, or the timeline for the second patch could have been sped up significantly.
Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for pointing it out.

I'm just trying to compare last year to this year, that's all. I'd rather have a patch in September vs. waiting for last years December patch. I still played the game up to this years release because after the patch, it was a pretty good game.

For example, when we visited, the zones were still problematic in Madden. We pointed out to them that the hook zones were dropping back too far. Sean Bailey told us that he was able to fix that issue that afternoon.

Another example is the QB icons disappearing and the drop in QB throwing accuracy when 15+ yards behind the LOS on Madden. That hadn't been implemented into Madden yet, but was put in the game during the final 3 weeks of development time. Surely it would not have been that difficult to port those changes over to NCAA.

The CPU throwing deep is another fix that we contacted them about, and Ian posted less than a week after our visit that they were able to resolve the issue in Madden. Similarly the DL pancake issue, which was not as bad in Madden to begin with, was addressed within a similar timeframe.

Given these things, I find it hard to believe that they couldn't have addressed every single gameplay issue that we pointed out to them between community day, which was the last week of May, and release day on July 15. They didn't start working on this roster patch until the weekend prior to release, when it was initially identified. Now, I don't know if that would have slowed the roster patch's approval process down, since the patch would have had more changes, or not, but it seems reasonable to say that these gameplay fixes could have very easily been delivered prior to September had the team given them a high priority throughout the period after the game went to final code.
Thats the current problem we are having, lack of communication, or understanding. If the issues were known, why werent they addressed? Even now, some arent being addressed (or at least, not being acknowledged as to whether they will or wont be in the patch).

As rhombic said, if they were able to fix it on Madden, you would think they could on NCAA, and why wait until now to fix it? Couldnt they have started the day after community day?

Its these types of questions that get people alittle ticked off......

Just hoping for more info on patch 2.........pass rush, CPU going deep, etc

Re: NCAA Football 09 Patch 2 Info (Pasta Padre)

Might be a dumb question, but can a patch fix such core gameplay elements as the speed/reaction time of defenders and OL/DL interactions post-release?

I admittedly know nothing about these things, but the idea that core gameplay elements can be so radically adjusted post-release has me quite skeptical.

And the insight about these issues being brought to the NCAA development team months earlier doesn't surprise me, but angers me nonetheless.

I'd like to request that they lengthen the time the defense has to pick a play online. Most players wait to see what the personnel the offense is bringing in before selecting a formation. If you do that online you have 7seconds!

Here's the question, since this was fixed in a patch last year why in THE H*** was it not fixed for 09??????????????????

Re: NCAA Football 09 Patch 2 Info (Pasta Padre)

Its unfair to compare games, in different sub-genre's, from different companies/development teams, with different management styles, but the CHoops 2k8 patch spoiled a lot of us.

It came out about 2 months after the game was first released(like the NCAA one seemingly will), and turned a very good game into the best sports game of all time(IMO of course)

To be fair, CHoops was helped by the fact that no new sports games were on the horizon that would reduce peoples' interest in playing that game.

There were probably more than a couple dozen fixes in that patch, at least half of them A.I./gameplay related. Many of them they didn't even list in the patch release notes, but were tuned up none the less.

Maybe the NCAA team will only detail a few of the fixes in the release notes, so as not to paint a picture of the game as being seriously flawed(we know public perception is always a consideration), but will really tighten things up on the QT.

Everyone should temper their expectations, but there is a precedent that people can look to give them hope.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I second that BK. I'm really anticipating that game. I was hoping a 2nd patch would be out by August but considering we haven't gotten the 1st patch yet and Padre mentioned September for the 2nd one it looks like my NCAA days will probably end sometime soon.

Same here, but normally I would buy NCAA and play it for awhile because I enjoyed it, so the circumstances are a bit different this year. Normally Im the geek that takes sheets of paper, writes out my entire returning class, all of the players going pro, depth charts heading into offseason recruiting for each and every season and then as each season ends in Madden I bring my paperwork out and see which guys made Madden from my program, its time consuming to say the least but I really love doing it so its worth it.
