DE-FENSE! DE-FENSE!! DE-FENSE!!!

Wow! My Michigan team’s 2039 season has started off better than imagined and it’s all about our defense! In our 1st 3 games we’ve allowed a total of 7 points and have had back-to-back shutouts (we only had 2 shutouts in our previous 3 SEASONS combined).

And this has been complete and total domination. We've only allowed a total of 487 yards (162 YPG), 290 passing yards (97 PYPG) and 197 rushing yards (66 RYPG). And this isn’t from crazy amounts of sacks (“only” 4 per game) or turnovers (1 per game). The real key has been our ridiculous 3rd down defense as we’ve only allowed 4/28 conversions (14%). We usually allow in the neighborhood of 40%, but this year my boys really know how to get off the field.

And this hasn’t been against scrubs either. We beat up an outmanned Western Michigan in our token “easy game” but we also beat #12 Arizona in the season opener and unranked, but 2-0 and 89 OVR Auburn in Jordan-Hare.

Here’s hoping the fellas can keep this impressive showing going for the rest of the season!

Nice to see defense in this game get some love. High octane offenses are fun and all, but when defenses shine, it is a truly different (and wonderful) experience.

And holy hell, lookit that Michigan Oregon start time!

Lol. As I said this is 2039, and I’ve coached in 221 games (174-47, .787) and this is the 1st game ever that I’ve noticed the start time, and that’s only because you mentioned it.

I think it's Eastern time, not local lol. I've got a 10:30 pm home game scheduled. And the 7:30 pm home game I've got isn't a night game.

That Oregon game is in Michigan, which is actually in the Eastern time zone.

Ah, I thought Michigan was Central Time Zone, so an 8 pm start sounded better but still latish.

Re: DE-FENSE! DE-FENSE!! DE-FENSE!!!

We’re halfway thru the regular season and the defense continues to dominate. We’ve only allowed double digit points once (10) and are only allowing 5 PPG (the last 2 years we allowed 17.5 and 25.4). We held #2 (91 OVR) Oregon to just 7 as they were one of the highest scoring teams in the country before playing us. We should’ve shutout Indiana, but my true SO QB threw a pick in the end zone that was returned 60 yards, setting the Hoosiers up with a short field (40 of their measly 188 total yards were on that scoring drive).

As a team we’re still only allowing 144 passing YPG and 213 total YPG! My pass D is usually good, but this season is bananas. (And, yes, I did check my sliders to make sure I didn’t somehow get switched off of All American). I returned a lot of starters on D so I had high hopes for my defense, but this is surpassing my wildest expectations.

The Indiana game had one of the most dominant individual performances I’ve seen too. My SR captain LOLB Forrest John (whose younger brother Greg John is a true FR backup RE this year) went BEAST MODE on the Whoseyurs. He led the team with 8 tackles, 4TFLs, 4 SACKS (he had 3 in the 1st 5 games combined), 2 forced fumbles (it was an ugly soggy game that saw 3 lost fumbles and 2 INTs between the 2 teams), 1 fumble recovery, and a PBU for good measure.

GO BLUE!
